Chris Strub

We were thrilled to welcome Chris Strub on Thursday, Aug. 13. Chris is embarking on a cross-country tour, volunteering with one organization in all 50 states to encourage volunteerism nationwide. And of all the non-profits in Delaware, he picked West End! The News Journal, WDEL and Channel 6 ABC News came to visit too!
New & Improved Websites!

Check out the new and improved websites for the Cool Spring Farmers' Market and Bright Spot Farms. Click on the link for each fruit and vegetable for information on nutritional facts, recipes and more!
Better Block
Over 500 people attended West Side Grows Together's 2nd Better Block event, which demonstrates improvements envisioned in the West Side Revitalization Plan, including pedestrian-friendly walkways, public art, performance spaces, outdoor seating, and a bike lane.
All Americans!
From July 27 - August 2, West End's 'Above Xpectations' Track Team competed at the Junior Olympics in Jacksonville, FL.  Three of our athletes are now ranked as All-Americans:
Isabel Mobley - 7th place in the 1500 meters (17-18 year old girls); Johnelle Joe - 5th place in the 1500 (17-18 year old boys); and Ryan Thompson - 8th place in the 400 meter hurdles.
Full STEAM Ahead!

Robotics was this week's theme at Camp West. Youth learned how robots are used (to perform less invasive surgery and go places that humans normally can't) and even got to try some out themselves!
Young Entrepreneurs

Inspired by the entrepreneurial success of the 'Sweet Dream Girlz' sister duo (pictured), West End youth business teams recently competed in a sales contest, learning valuable lessons in staffing, marketing, inventory, wholesale and retail sales. 1st place went to Jaida Bey, Isis Melton, Ma'Nyah Mayo and Paris Carter; 2nd place winners included Zihere Owens and Danazja Wilmore; and 3rd place went to team '4 Aces'.
