West End Track Star Earns Scholarship

Congratulations to Najiya Cornish Freeman of West End's Above Xpectations Track Team, who received a full (4 year) scholarship to Ursuline Academy. Najiya is also the 2014 Indoor National Champion in the 55m dash and maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

Sen. Carper Visits the Mobile Market! 
Many thanks to Senator Tom Carper for stopping by West End's Mobile Farmers' Market at the JP Morgan Chase Courtyard at 2nd & French Streets. Thanks to a generous grant from Highmark, Delaware, the Mobile Market now provides fresh, locally grown produce to 9 different locations throughout the city of Wilmington. Better Block Project

From Aug.11-13, West Side Grows Together welcomed over 100 visitors to their Better Block Project on the 600 block of N. Union St. This temporary re-design took over a lane of traffic and used it for outdoor seating for local restaurants & performances, which included K-9 training with the Wilmington Police, acoustic guitar, and the McAleer Irish Dancers (pictured). Teen Summit

On Saturday, Aug. 2, over 500 youth and 100 parents attended the 7th annual Teen Summit at Delaware State University.

Attendees enjoyed musical performances, a celebrity panel discussion, a college tour and gender-specific workshops on the prevention of underage drinking, violence and promiscuity. The event also included a workshop for parents on Prescription Drug Abuse. All activities were planned and led by participating youth.
