Success Story

Keith Roberts had been behind in school, struggled to find a job and at age 17 entered the foster care system. It was there that he was connected to West End's Transitional Housing and Bright Spot Ventures (BSV) programs.

Through BSV, Keith took forklift training at Del Tech and, after completing, was offered an externship at a local lumber company. Shortly thereafter, the company offered him a part-time, 30 hour per week job, which he gladly accepted. Keith is now first in line for a full-time position!

Girl Talk

On June 27th, The National Association of Professional Women hosted a 'Girl Talk' session at West End.

Six members of the organization spoke to more than 20 teenage girls from One Village Alliance and West End's Carrera program about how they got started professionally, successes and struggles, respect and the workplace, as well as the importance of education and investing in oneself.

This week, join us in welcoming Big Sky Bakery, Milburn Orchards, and Whimsical Farms, as well as folk duo Halley & McKeever.

Next Thursday (July 25th) don't miss Kids' Nutritional Day. The Food Bank will be teaching children how to create a healthy meal, while attendees enjoy performances from The Delaware Children's Theatre and the First State Symphonic Band!

Home Ownership Information Session

On July 31st, Cornerstone West, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County, will hold a home ownership information session from 6-8 p.m. in the gym at West End Neighborhood House (710 N. Lincoln St., Wilmington). Participants will learn how to purchase a home for as little as $500/month. Doors close at 6:15. Adults only.
