Owls at West End?

On April 16, presenters from White Clay Creek State Park brought a Barn Owl, Saw-Whet Owl, Screech Owl, and Great Horned Owl to West End Neighborhood House for an environmental education program. The class observed different adaptations of the species, listened to the owls' calls and learned about their habitats.
Carrera - Making a Difference 

According to Aliyah Bonsu, "...you can go to the people at Carrera. They're there to help you; they're like your second parents." Check out this article from Sunday's News Journal that explains how West End's Carrera program is making a difference in the lives of Aliyah and other youth like her.
Tutor Goes Above & Beyond

Congratulations to Alden Gibbs, who, since July of 2011, has volunteered almost 140 hours with the Education and Employment Department as a GED tutor for reading, writing, and grammar. Of the 15 students he has tutored, 8 have already obtained GEDs!

West End Campus Community Day!   

Many thanks to the more than 50 staff members and West End program participants who took part in our Community Project Day activities, which included planting trees, bushes and flowers, painting the gym, clean up and beautification projects, just to name a few!
Above Xpectations - Continued Success
   
West End's Above Xpectations Track Team continues to make strides. In March, both the boys and girls teams won overall team titles at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, AL.
