That Travlin'
Swami Man!
Swami in the Southeast
The Grand Poobah, our valiant Wine Swami, is currently traveling at a frenzied pace through Eastern France with a couple of delicious detours into Italy's great northwest. We miss that man, but we're able to enjoy plenty of his handpicked selections from the regions that he's visiting while he's away. We'll be tasting plenty of fabulous French wines from the Rhone, Languedoc, and Provence at our next tastings, and we also follow his adventures through the interwebs: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

Is that my beer growling?

We're now offering Growlers and refills from tap at our Raleigh location from beloved local and regional craft breweries like Ponysaurus, Wicked Weed, and Crank Arm! Each is the equivalent of roughly four pints and offers an ocean of ale-errific or lager-tastic enjoyment to share (or not share) while on vacation or staycation. Cheers!

As always, a portion of each and every bottle of ros sold will be donated to the fight against breast cancer!

Txakolifest!

Sunday, June 12th

Txakolifest is back! It's the one day of the year that Durham breaks out its secret stash of porrons and is transformed into an unlikely sister city to San Sebastin. Complete with spritzy Basque wine, oysters, and pintxos (tapas), this is one of the greatest celebrations in town and has become the largest festival of Txakoli in the US!
6 Plates Txakoli
This year, Mattie Beason, De Maison, Wine Authorities, and The Rickhouse are partnering to carry on the torch of Txakolifest! With the help of spectacular vendors, chefs and culinary artisans, we are making this year's Txakolifest one for the books! Hold on to your porron, and basque in the camaraderie of this day all while raising money and awareness for Urban Ministries of Durham, whose mission is to meet emergency needs for food, clothing, and shelter and to help those who are homeless secure a home and the resources to stay there.

Also Featuring:
MATEO, PIZZERIA TORO, JUJU, GOCCIOLINA , ORRMAN'S CHEESE SHOP, BLACK TWIG, BONAFIDE, BLU SEAFOOD, OVAL PARK GRILLE, DURHAM TOFFEE, MW CALLIGRAPHY, AMERICAN PARTY RENTALS, & MORE!!

Wine Authorities's Grand Poobah will be on hand through the afternoon and evening sessions as the event's professor of Txakolina! He'll describe the grapes & regions responsible for Txakoli, demonstrate how to use a porron (pictured above), and answer all your Txako-riffic questions.

Tasty Tuesday!
Mediterranean Mettle
Next Tuesday, June 7th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm
Summer has, somewhat unsurprisingly, arrived ahead of schedule, and we're soaking up Provenal ros faster than you can say "cheers!" or "pink!" or any other single syllable word that expresses the delight of drinking ros. Let us not neglect, however, the many other specialties of southeastern France! Next Tuesday, we're beginning near Montpelier to sip the always refreshing white, Picpoul de Pinet. Next, we'll  turn our attentions to the balmy viticultural paradise of the Rhone's Tavel, where we'll meet a brand new ros. We'll wind up in Bandol for a bold, broad-shouldered red made predominantly from Mourvedre! Vive la Mditerrane!

And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

A flood from
the Rhone!
New arrivals from Ligire & Guy Farge!
Normally, when we talk about a river flooding, it's literal and is very bad news. In the world of wine regions, this certainly remains true. Fortunately, we speak figuratively and with delight about this weekend's featured tasting as we're celebrating the arrival of bountiful boxes of bold, beautiful wines from our friends at Domaine La Ligire of Vacqueyras  and absolutely awesome inaugural arrivals form Domaine Guy Farge of the Northern Rhone. Typically, when we roll out a new arrival from the north, our palates celebrate and our pocketbooks mourn, but everyone is in agreement this time as these are seriously seductive wines at sympatico prices. Taste, explore, and celebrate with us this Saturday!

Ros "Sud Absolut" 2015
{organic} 90% Carignan,

(Southern Rhone, France)
JUICY RASPBERRY & LEMON ZEST, FIRM & HYPER-REFRESHING
Carignan, with its reputation for robust rusticity, is probably not the grape that you'd immediately suspect upon tasting this vibrantly berryish and lightly floral ros from the northwestern fringe of the Provenal countryside. As eloquently balanced as this wine is, we can't help but think of it as the adult equivalent of a...

BLACKBERRY AND JUICY MULBERRY, THYME & A KISS OF ANISEED
The reds of the Northern Rhone are some of France's most distinctive, and their rarity has inducted them, over the last half-century, mercilessly into the ranks of wines that are nearly impossible to find good, inexpensive examples of. Every once in a while, a lone hero rides in and provides us with something that we can really sink our teeth into...

"Terre de Granit

(Northern Rhone, France)
CASSIS & EARTHY BLUEBERRY, PUMPERNICKEL & THYME
Saint-Joseph is a region that really sprawls. A relatively narrow strip, it spans vertically for approximately 40 miles with its best growing areas at the far north and far south. Domaine Guy Farge finds itself situated in the south, producing reds in the riper, more accessible style that this corner of the huge appellation is known for. Medium-to-full-bodied with elegantly earthy undercurrents and unctuously...

INKY RASPBERRY & DATE, VIOLETS & CLOVE, PEPPERY
Biodynamic, buxom, and bodaciously boxed, we have here three liters of awe-inspiring Rhone red. Opening with a wallop of violet blossoms and black raspberry, it masterfully evolves into a savory blend of grilled thyme, clove, and dried dates. The proximity of Vacqueyras to Chteauneuf-du-Pape should also reflect...
