the Atlantic!
Sincere, characterful, wine can contribute much to our enjoyment of special destinations. As the winning stretch of our long, leisurely, N.C. beach season kicks into gear, we always find ourselves musing about what goes best with basking in the sun and bathing in the surf. And while nothing exactly clashes with seaside fun, some wines are simply more perfect than others. Join us at our next tastings for wines both from and for Atlantic escapades! Also, keep in mind that TxakoliFest and its very oceanic Basque wines are just around the corner (read on for more info). We're also now offering Growlers and refills from tap at our Raleigh location from beloved local and regional craft breweries like Ponysaurus, Wicked Weed, and Crank Arm! Each is the equivalent of roughly four pints and offers an ocean of ale-errific or lager-tastic enjoyment to share (or not share) while on vacation or staycation. Cheers!
It's here at long last! The pink oasis that refreshes our mouths and nourishes our souls is once again in bloom! The Rosé Garden has arrived, and we're kicking off the the season with selections that include the Garden's starring darling, "Venus" (in both bottles and glorious 3-LITER Bag-in-boxes) along with other returning favorites from years past in their shiny new vintages fresh off the boat! As always, a portion of each and every bottle of rosé sold will be donated to the fight against breast cancer!
Real Customer Comment:
"My friends and I come here all the time. Twice I've given guests gift cards here and they've loved it." - Holly K. (via Yelp)

Txakolifest is back! It's the one day of the year that Durham breaks out its secret stash of porrons and is transformed into an unlikely sister city to San Sebastián. Complete with spritzy Basque wine, oysters, and pintxos (tapas), this is one of the greatest celebrations in town and has become the largest festival of Txakoli in the US! This year, Mattie Beason, De Maison, Wine Authorities, and The Rickhouse are partnering to carry on the torch of Txakolifest! With the help of spectacular vendors, chefs and culinary artisans, we are making this year's Txakolifest one for the books! Hold on to your porron, and basque in the camaraderie of this day all while raising money and awareness for Urban Ministries of Durham, whose mission is to meet emergency needs for food, clothing, and shelter and to help those who are homeless secure a home and the resources to stay there.
Also Featuring:
MATEO, PIZZERIA TORO, JUJU, GOCCIOLINA , ORRMAN'S CHEESE SHOP, BLACK TWIG, BONAFIDE, BLU SEAFOOD, OVAL PARK GRILLE, DURHAM TOFFEE, MW CALLIGRAPHY, AMERICAN PARTY RENTALS, & MORE!!
Wine Authorities's Grand Poobah will be on hand through the afternoon and evening sessions as the event's professor of Txakolina! He'll describe the grapes & regions responsible for Txakoli, demonstrate how to use a porron (pictured above), and answer all your Txako-riffic questions.

Free Saturday Tastings!
Durham & Raleigh:
From Noon to 3 pm, "try before you buy"
at our FREE tastings!
Bastions of Beach Season:
Beach season is back, and we have wines from all corners of the Atlantic to accompany you to our patch of oceanside paradise! We'll begin with Muscadet, a powerhouse of pairing with every manner of seafood...especially oysters! Next, we'll allow refreshment the likes of which only Txakoli dares provide to surf gently over our palates and fill us with the exciting essences of the ocean. Now that we've covered seafood pairings and summery, shimmery, surfside fun, we'll celebrate a pair of prime red specialties from some of the world's most Atlantic-influenced wine regions. Portugal's Bairrada with its native Baga grape and Uruguay with it's adopted favorite, Tannat, have a well earned reputation for dark, powerful, sometimes rustic reds that we probably should decline to pair with seafood but will gladly enjoy on the porch with an evening breeze!
Chateau de la Chauvinière
Muscadet Sèvre et Mane 2014 Sur Lie
{organic} 100% Melon de Bourogne
(Loire Atlantique, France)
BRIGHT PEAR & LIME, CHALKY MINERAL, VERY VERY DRY Holy Moly! We weren't sure if we were ready for this one! Possibly the driest tasting wine in the store. "It don't get no drier," said one fan. If you are curious about experiencing a wine with a very minerally flavor, but haven't identified...
Akarregi Txiki
100% Hondarribi Zuri (Getariako Txakolina, Spain)
GREEN APPLE, LIME, UNRIPE GREEN GRAPES, SPRITZY Lasalde Elkartea is a big man with giant hands. He comes from a cattle farming family, but left this tradition to follow his love of the zippy Basque wine. Glimmering with green zestiness and bright golden fruit, this phenomenal value in Txakoli layers the signature mineral and blazing acidity that we crave from these refreshing Basque sensations...
Quinta do Encontro
(Bairrada, Portugal)
BLACK CURRANT FRUIT, LIGHT SPICE, INTENSE FLAVORS Baga, the primary grape of Bairrada, is known for powerful wines with sometimes tongue-drying tannins. This beauty from Encontro tempers that rustic character with a small addition of Merlot and fully ripened Baga that accentuates its lush, raisiny character. Don't be afraid - this is an exquisite wine...
Tannat 2014 "Premium Varietal"
RICH DARK FRUIT, FIRM TEXTURE, LOVIN' THE GRILL What crazy national wine industry specializes in Tannat?! Uruguay has quietly toiled in the shadows of its viticultural upstart neighbors Argentina and Chile, but it's recently started to emerge from obscurity on the basis of top-notch Tannat...
