This is Madness!
March Madness!
We here at your friendly neighborhood Wine Authorities like beer as much as the next guy in mesh shorts, but we still have to say that wine has the power to make basketball better. Wait! This is no mere beverage bias! Parties provide the ideal setting for popping corks on a variety of exciting new wines and sharing the experience with your closest friends, and even though you may hate each other's favorite teams, your bond will be better preserved courtesy of delicious, estate-produced wine! Also, don't forget to box out for box wine. It's a slam dunk!
March. Out like a lamb...but inbounding like a sheep.

In the hearts and minds of American wine drinkers, Austria has arrived. Its reputation for characterful wines of inspiring quality gains momentum while its knack for tremendous value remains intact. But on what foundation is all of this built? Quite a sturdy one! Austria's viticultural history goes back millennia. Join us as we celebrate the nation's uniqueness as well as what connects it (and its signature grapes) to the rest of Europe. We'll focus on the present, examine the past, and ponder the future of modern, masterful Austria! Class includes comprehensive tasting, visual presentation, and handouts.

Tasty Tuesday:
The April Fool Cometh!
aka
"Grave Grape Blunders"
This Tuesday, March 29th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting!  Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm
Prepare to be dynamically un-fooled this Tuesday as we celebrate this year's impending April 1st by eroding a few falsehoods about grape varietals which are well-overdue for quashing.
Join us as we explore the fact that there's not anything inherently oaky or buttery about Chardonnay. We'll explain why there's no whisper more sweetness in Riesling that's had all of its sugar fermented into alcohol than there would be in a wine made from any other grape. We'll also tear right into the mystifyingly still fashionable anti-Merlot sentiment whose foundation was laid by overproduction and cemented by Hollywood. You won't get fooled again!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Free Saturday Tastings!
Durham & Raleigh:
From Noon to 3 pm, "try before you buy"
at our FREE tastings!
For Easter:
"Out Like a Lamb"
(or a Baked Ham)
Join us this Saturday as our tasting takes its cue from the trappings of traditional Easter feasts. We'll begin with a sparkling rosé as crisp, juicy, and versatile as they come. After all, despite what you might have been told, pork is not a "white meat." It's pink. It's only natural that we should drink some pink wine with it. Our second offering is a flavorful blend from Alsace which features a veritable who's who of the region's grapes.
Our two reds are classic combinations of grapes like Mourvedre (Monastrell), Grenache, and Syrah - one from Spain and the other from France's Southern Rhone. These are lip-smackingly juicy enough for ham but with wonderful, outlandishly lamb-friendly spice.

Mas Codina Ros_ Cava
Mas Codina
Cava Brut Rosé 2013
{organic} 100% Pinot Noir
(Penedès, Spain)
MINERALLY WHITE CHERRY & BRIGHT RED PLUM, DELICATE TEXTURE, LOVELY ACIDITY
By law, all Cava must be produced utilizing a secondary fermentation in the bottle - "Méthode Champenoise," and this delicate an keenly generous rosé from our friends at Mas Codina is bright, restrained, and finely textured, this is a profound and understated sparkler which exudes sophistication, fun, and balance...

Cave Freudenreich
Edelzwicker 2012
Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Sylvaner, Muscat, Pinot Blanc, etc.
(Alsace, France)
HONEYSUCKLE & APRICOT, OFF-DRY WITH ZINGY ACIDITY
The term Edelzwicker means "Noble Blend", and serves as a catch-all for Alsatian wines blended from noble grape varieties. This example from Cave Freudenreich is a who's who of what Alsace does best, and it's more than the sum of it's parts. Heady aromatics conjure blossoms on a spring breeze...

Valencia Tinto 2013
"Bilogia"
{biodynamic} 50% Monastrell,
50% Syrah

BLUEBERRY & PLUM, BOLD & LUSH. SOFT, TOASTY OAK
Casa Los Frailes, taking its name from the friars which once inhabited the estate, produces wine with the utmost respect for nature and its vineyards. Monastrell, the premier varietal of Spain's southeast, is clearly their first priority. For the Bilogía cuvée, they blend it with its classic blending partner of France, Syrah...

FIRM RASPBERRY & DARK CHOCOLATE, WHITE PEPPER & SUCCULENT SPICE
Cairanne is one of the brightest points in the Southern Rhone and, despite its increasingly lofty reputation, somehow continues to remain a source for some of the valley's best values. Forged predominantly from 100 year old Grenache vines and Syrah planted more than half a century ago, this offering...
