"An Undiscovered Iberia"
Wine Class
Many wine drinkers know enough about Portugal to know that they love it, and yet there's so much more to know! Portugal seems like a new wine frontier to many of us on this side of the Atlantic, but the western Iberian country has a rich viticultural history just begging to be more deeply explored. Join us on March 3rd at our Durham shop as we treat ourselves to wines made from the many exotic, often exclusive grape varieties of Portugal's diverse array of wine regions! Class includes comprehensive tasting, visual presentation, and handouts.

We're taking 10 customers to France!

Really!
We at Wine Authorities have found ourselves in an enviable position since we opened in 2007. We work only with small, passionate, family-owned wineries from around the world. We have the pleasure of getting to personally know most of the winegrowers whose wines we sell, and we regularly get to travel to some of the most beautiful places you can imagine to visit their vineyards. They show us unending hospitality and appreciation for supporting their way of life. This close, personal interaction with the people, their land, and their cuisine gives us a deeper understanding of their artisanship, and we excitedly pass on the experience to you through their wine.
We know, lucky us. Right? Almost daily we hear "If you ever need somebody to carry your luggage, just let me know." Well, this year from June 5th through 11th, ten customers will join the Grand Poobah and photographer / artist Jean-Christian Rostagni as they visit winegrowers in the Rhone Valley and Provence. This all-inclusive trip will be an amazing one to remember. Details here will be finalized soon. Get your name on the list before it sells out! We are already down to eight remaining spaces.

feat. Honeygirl Meadery!
This Tuesday, February 23rd, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

The Triangle has increasingly become a focal point for not only the appreciation of artisinal imbibements but also the production of them. Nestled among our wealth of impressive breweries are wonderful gems that are a bit farther off the beaten path. Among these distinctive specialties is Honeygirl Meadery's majestic offerings!
Honeygirl celebrates nature and the work of honey bees by making meads (honey wines) infused with seasonal fruits, flowers, and herbs. We're happy to welcome Diane Currier to our Raleigh shop at our next Tasty Tuesday, where she'll be sharing her delicous specialties! The featured meads will be poured at both our locations, but Diane will appear only in Raleigh. Click on the picture below for more information on Honeygirl!

Cahors: Birthplace of Malbec

feat. Clos Troteligotte
(The estate's Manu Rybinski will be pouring at our Durham store. The wines, themselves, will be sampled at both locations!)
This Saturday at our free tasting, we welcome the wines of a most dedicated and forward-thinking ambassador of Malbec's origins. Southwestern France's Cahors is a beautiful and imposing medieval city, and the countryside which surrounds it is the original stomping ground of the majestic Malbec (originally known as Côt.) Clos Troteligotte has become one of this landscape's stars, and the estate's Emmanuel Rybinski (better known as Manu) is visiting us once again to pour four of his always-impressive wines and share with us his fascinating interest in clever puns revolving around the letter "K."
Emmanuel Rybinski
We'll begin somewhat unexpectedly with an adventurous white made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier, which is vibrant and strikingly aromatic. Next, a pair of his famously structured, minerally Malbec cuvées (the "Knom" and the "K-or" - grown organically and vinified without oak aging) will be showcased. These will be followed by a gorgeous cuvée of microlot Malbec, the sumptuous, barrel aged "K." We're hot to Troteligotte!

{organic} 50% Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Viognier
(Cahors, Southwest France)
BRIGHT & TROPICAL, TOAST, REFRESHING & SUMPTUOUS
Emmanuel Rybinski is a veritable maestro of Malbec. With this cuvée, however, he turns his sights toward a trio of France's most distinguished white grapes, each finding itself a long way from home in Rybinski's Sud-Ouestern vineyards. The result is vibrant and unique - filled with bold tropical fruit, balancing acidity, and a kiss of toasty...

"K-nom"
{organic} 85% Malbec, 15% Merlot
(Cahors, Southwest France)
PLUM & BLACKBERRY, LIGHT SMOKE & MINERAL, FIRM TANNIN
Emmanuel Rybinski is a relatively recent graduate of oenology school, yet his experience in winemaking has taken him from France to Australia to California to learn about varied winemaking techniques around the world. Returning to Southwest France's Cahors, he turns out fantastic Malbec-based wines. Taking over...

Clos Troteligotte
Cahors 2014
"K-or"
{organic} 100% Malbec
(Cahors, Southwest France)
BLACKBERRY, PEPPER & ANISEED, A TOUCH OF COCOA
Emmanuel Rybinski knows that great wine is made on the vine, and he devotes most of his time to carefully farming his small vineyard (which of course makes us at Wine Authorities get all swoony). Debudding and judicious pruning means that his Malbec bunches have plenty of room to grow healthy and ripe, qualities...

Cahors 2011
"K"
{organic} 100% Malbec
(Cahors, Southwest France)
FIRM BLACK PLUM, TOASTED OAK, DARK MINERALITY
Somewhat nebulous in name yet undeniably focused in personality, Emmanuel Rybinski's "K" reveals its deliciously dark aura from the very first sip. This very contemporary representative of the famous "Black Wine" of Cahors is indeed very black in both flavor and appearance. Opaque in the glass, it's...
