Our Budget-Busting
campaign of 2016 continues in style!
Last week, we revealed our dream team of budget busters for our annual post-holiday display (listed below) and featured four of the sensational six at our Saturday tasting. This week, we keep the frabjously frugal elixirs flowing, featuring the display's two Portuguese offerings (a Douro and a Vinho Verde) in addition to a second pair of Dailydelights (from Alentejo and Lisboa). Read on for more info

"Vine To Wine" Class
7:33 PM - $36 per person
Wine Authorities Durham
There are still seats available at our first class of spring semester! Our concise yet comprehensive "Vine to Wine" is fun and educational, boldly chronicling the lives of wines from the first spring buds' breaking open to each grape's being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we take home with us! We cover how vines are grown and how wine is made, how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine...and we'll debunk some of the stubbornest wine myths throughout the course of the two hour class!

Tasty Tuesday!
Casa Los Frailes
This Tuesday, January 19th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm
Following this Saturday's tasting of pivotal Portuguese offerings, we're taking a leap clear across the Iberian peninsula to Spain's southeast at our next Tasty Tuesday. We'll find ourselves in sunny southern Valencia (sounds really good right about now) and in the company of monolithic Monastrell and iconic blanco that's one of a kind. Put on the paella and warm up with wonderful wine of the Levante-i-est kind!

PIVOTAL!
West Portugal
PORTUGAL!
Good things come in small packages, and while Portugal isn't among the smallest European countries, it's dwarfed on the map by its closest neighbors. The nation's wines, however, are gargantuan in character and unparalleled in uniqueness. This Saturday, we're covering the country's specialties in a series of sweeping sashays which will take us from north to south to north to south again. Refreshing Vinho Verde and radiant rosé promise to refresh us and tantalize our taste buds while inky reds elegantly wallop us over the heads with powerful dark fruit. It's cold out, but a Portuguese paradise is just one tasting away!

A TROPICAL PARADISE, SPRY, RELENTLESSLY REFRESHING!
Let the refreshment wash over you! Vinho Verde is still what patio & picnic dreams are made of, but a renaissance is sweeping through Portugal's far north and carrying these valiantly vibrant, tirelessly tangy delights forward. Not all contemporary Vinho Verde is effervescent, but this one represents the classically frothy and fresh style...with a richer twist...

TART CHERRY & GOJI BERRY, PALATE-PLEASING (& TEASING!) ACIDITY
To look at Portugal's Lisboa on a map, one would understandably envision it as probably hot and best suited to dense, extracted reds like the ones associated with many similarly southerly Iberian regions. The reality is astonishingly mild - conducive less to unwieldily powerhouse wines than to elegance and balance. The Sant'Ana estate is very small (less than 20 acres!) and lovingly manages...

BLACK PLUM & RIPE BERRY, FIRM & DARK, BOLD & FULL-BODIED
Often as vines grow older, their production of grapes diminishes to the point that growers will rip them out and replant younger, more vigorous ones. The problem is that younger vines rarely produce wines with as much richness and character as the older, more established ones do. This field blend of Touriga Franca and up...

40% Petit Verdot, 30% Alicante Bouchet, 20% Syrah, 10% Aragonez
(Alentejo, Portugal)
BLACKBERRY & PEPPER, FINE TANNINS, CLAY-LIKE HINTS
This is a truly exciting find for its bold, flavorful generosity and depth. Adventurous wine-lovers and geeks will also relish the opportunity to taste rich, ripe Petit Verdot at a very rare 40% concentration. In this cuvee it appears with fellow-French expats Alicante Bouschet and Syrah along with Spain's Tempranillo (three of southern Alentejo's most important varietals)...
