It's Sherry Week!

Sherry provides us with some of the most distinctive and unique flavors that the world of wine has to offer, yet it's spent the last few decades relegated to the shadows. A Sherry renaissance of sorts has, however, been recently gaining momentum, and a vocal, Sherry-lovin' contingency has robustly emerged in our very own Triangle area.
Sherry Week (November 2nd-8th) may be almost half over, but look at it this way: as you receive this email, there are still approximately 89 hours to celebrate, discover, and feast upon sherry! Start by sampling one of our favorite Manzanillas - currently on the Enomatic at both stores...

Tonight in Durham!
"The Power of Pairing"
Wine & Food Class

7:33 PM - $48 per person
Wine pairing isn't an exact science...or is it? Of course, there are different approaches to marrying meal to swill, but there are some generally accepted rules that can help demystify the art of pairing and enhance enjoyment (not only of wine but of the food that it's destined to accompany). Join us as we lay out the principles and engage your taste buds in exercises of food-drink camaraderie. Give your inner-sommelier a booster shot!
Class includes comprehensive tasting, nibbles* to illustrate the power of pairing, a visual presentation, and handouts.

Call (919) 489-2884 to purchase tickets!

"One wafer thin mint?"
*The class includes five "courses" of illustrative nibbles, but it isn't intended to serve as a meal. You will probably want to have had a bite to eat beforehand (or afterward).

Plus! Read on below about

Wine Classes!
(Package Deal)

The phrase "back to school" is a somewhat complicated one. It can simultaneously connote scholarship, savings, and...unimaginable horror. Let's keep those first two and check the third at the door, shall we? For the first time ever, we're both announcing a year's worth of classes and giving you the opportunity to save substantially on them!
Purchase a W.A. Wine Class Certificate either for yourself or as a gift for some wine lovin' someone in your life (or both!), and get up to a $144 value (three classes of your/their choosing) for only $100. The certificate can be used on both fall and spring classes throughout 2015 and 2016. Heck, get one for each semester if you want to bone up in a most unbridled fashion! Have a look at the classes we've scheduled in the side column!

Visit from special guest:
Domaine La Ligière
of the Southern Rhone

Next week, we welcome Philippe Bernard of the Southern Rhone's Domaine La Ligiere to our neck of the woods. His  corner of the Rhone Valley brushes up against Provence and brings us voluptuous reds, intensely aromatic whites, and vibrantly refreshing rosés. These beautiful, biodynamic and organic wines had never before been available in this part of the United States until we began bringing them in this summer. Help us extend a warm welcome to Philippe and taste through some of his estate's masterpieces!
Free Tastings 5 - 7 pm:

(November 11th)
Next Thursday in Raleigh!

Fall has arrived in earnest, and we can hardly find our footing for the crunchy, multicolored leaves covering the ground. To celebrate the advent of oyster season, crisp autumnal aromas, and Thanksgiving feasts, we've prepared a care package of fall favorites to share with you! There's a mineralistically razory bubbly from the land of Muscadet (indispensable for oyster aficionados), a lushly perfumed yet beautifully balanced Viognier, a feast-friendly rosé from southern Portugal, a pair of turkey-lovin' reds (crisp Dolcetto & juicy Syrah), and a Cab Franc-driven ode to fallen forest leaves crunching under our feet. Let's have three (or, in this case, six) cheers for autumn!

"An Italian
  Itinerary"

New & Notable from
the Leg-Like Land...
For this Saturday's free tasting, we've charted out a z-shaped itinerary that would make Zorro, himself, proud! We'll begin in the province of Verona with an example of the Soave region's famously elegant whites before heading to Lombardy's Valtellina, an imposing landscape of steeply- terraced vineyards (with imposing names like "Inferno") just beneath the Swiss Alps.  Here we'll encounter a chiseled, ruby-like red made from Nebbiolo - a sensational value. Next, we'll dispense with the letter v and journey to the countryside southeast of Rome where we'll find Cesanese, a red revered in the late Renaissance era and becoming better-known once again. Our final stop lands us in the hills of Tuscany for a Sangiovese-dominated blend brimming with black cherry fruit and foresty elegance. Salute!

Almost a century later, his son and grandson carry the torch that he ignited, striving to balance uncompromisingly sustainable production with sharp, shrewd business sense. This is classic Nebbiolo with hues of dusky, rose-orange sunset and an...
