Greetings! top
Pumpkin Spice,
Everywhere!

From what we read on social media, this year's inevitable, autumnal treats appear to have struck a deeper chord than usual with both "pumpkin spice" aficionados and decriers. While it seems that lattes are perhaps the most controversial, a climactic twitter/facebook/instagram battle over all manners of pumpkin and/or spice may indeed be the harbinger of the end of civilization.
Whatever the case, we have great news for both camps! We're getting increasingly into the season (and no, it's not too early for a jack-o'-lantern in our weekly newsletter!) with not only a few wonderfully decadent treats that do involve pumpkin, but other fall favorites as well. Wicked Weed's awesome "Xibalba" Imperial Pumpkin Porter and Dogfish Head's "Punkin" Ale are now in stock! If you're not so sure how you feel about craft beers infused with rotund orange squashes, then treat yourself to seasonal pear and fig brews also from Wicked Weed or spicy, Cabernet Franc-based reds that resolutely recall strolls through misty, enchanted autumn forests. Explore a pair of these at this Saturday's Tasting, and don't forget our awesome Autumn Pack!

Real Customer Comment:
"You might think that shopping at a wine store would be more expensive than the grocery store, but there are a staggering number of options in the $10-$15 range that are much, much better than anything you'd get elsewhere."

The phrase "back to school" is a somewhat complicated one. It can simultaneously connote scholarship, savings, and...unimaginable horror. Let's keep those first two and check the third at the door, shall we? For the first time ever, we're both announcing a year's worth of classes and giving you the opportunity to save substantially on them!
Purchase a W.A. Wine Class Certificate either for yourself or as a gift for some wine lovin' someone in your life (or both!), and get up to a $144 value (three classes of your/their choosing) for only $100. The certificate can be used on both fall and spring classes. Heck, get one for each semester if you want to bone up in a most unbridled fashion! Have a look at the scheduled classes in the side column!

Class Certificate: $100

Wine & Food

7:33 PM - $48 per person
Wine pairing isn't an exact science...or is it? Of course, there are different approaches to marrying meal to swill, but there are some generally accepted rules that can help demystify the art of pairing and enhance enjoyment (not only of wine but of the food that it's destined to accompany). Join us as we lay out the principles and engage your taste buds in exercises of food-drink camaraderie. Give your inner-sommelier a booster shot!
Class includes comprehensive tasting, nibbles to illustrate the power of pairing, a visual presentation, and handouts.

Autumn is tiptoeing in, and the first yellowish leaves are gathering on the ground. Sure, it's been a bit difficult to tell exactly which season we're entering with our fair Triangle playing dress up as a rain forest (practicing for a Halloween costume, perhaps?), but fall has arrived.
To celebrate the advent of oyster season, crisp autumn aromas, and Thanksgiving feasts, we've prepared a care package of fall favorites to share with you! There's a mineralistically razory bubbly from the magical land of Muscadet (indispensable for oyster aficionados) , a lushly perfumed yet beautifully balanced Viognier, a feast-friendly ros from southern Portugal, a pair of turkey-lovin' reds (crisp Dolcetto & juicy Syrah), and a Cab Franc-driven ode to fallen forest leaves crunching under our feet. Cheers to autumn!

Tasty Tuesday!
La Casaccia!
This Tuesday, October 13th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm

 Featuring (in Durham only),
Special Guest, Margherita Rava!
Join us this Tuesday as we celebrate the wines of La Casaccia, whose specialties include the signature varieties of the Piemonte's Monferrato as well as bold bubbly and still Chardonnay-based delights. Their take on Barbera has, in particular, become one of our favorite selections from Italy's northwest. We'll be sampling it along with a couple of great surprises from the estate!
We'll be joined by the estate's charming and lovely Margherita Rava (pictured below with her father, Giovanni) only in Durham. The three wines themselves, however, will be poured at both stores!

Fall in love with
The Loire!
When a wine region follows a river and its numerous tributaries upstream for over 600 miles, there's bound to be simply too much to see (and taste) on a single Saturday afternoon, so this week, we've chartered a bullet cruise to focus not only on newer arrivals from the diverse network of regions throughout the Loire but also to herald the arrival of Autumn...
We'll begin close to the Atlantic mouth of the Loire River, in the land of Muscadet, to celebrate the advent of oyster season with a most minerally sparkler. Next, we'll head inland to Anjou for a tantalizingly tart ros featuring Gamay and Grolleau. For reds, we'll hit up Chinon for a bountiful box of Cabernet Franc, as well as the illusive Fiefs Vendens for a Pinot Noir/Negrette/Cab Franc blend - both of which are sure to strike a fall-friendly chord with woodsy perfume and leafy spice. Fall in love with the Loire!

BRAMBLY LOGANBERRY, AUTUMNAL UNDERBRUSH, CHARRED GREEN PEPPER SKINS  As deeply purple as the shale soil that feeds its vines, the "Marie du Fou" cuve takes its name mysteriously from a colloquial French phrase that is applied to carefree country girls. While there is arguably a kind of feminine intrigue that is demure, yet chiseled and no shortage of terroir-driven suggestions of unspoiled countryside, we find this red to be more measured and elegant than...
