It's been autumn for a week, and the first yellowish leaves are gathering on the ground. Sure, it's been a bit difficult to tell exactly which season we're entering with our fair Triangle playing dress up as a rain forest (practicing for a Halloween costume, perhaps?), but fall has arrived. To celebrate the advent of oyster season, crisp autumn aromas, and approaching Thanksgiving feasts, we've prepared a care package of fall favorites to share with you! There's a mineralistically razory bubbly from the magical land of Muscadet (indispensable for oyster aficionados) , a lushly perfumed yet beautifully balanced Viognier, a feast-friendly rosé from southern Portugal, a pair of turkey-lovin' reds (crisp Dolcetto & juicy Syrah), and a Cab Franc-driven ode to fallen forest leaves crunching under our feet. Cheers to autumn!

The phrase "back to school" is a somewhat complicated one. It can simultaneously connote scholarship, savings, and...unimaginable horror. Let's keep those first two and check the third at the door, shall we? We kick off our "fall semester" of classes this October first, and for the first time ever, we're both announcing a year's worth of classes and giving you the opportunity to save substantially on them!
Purchase a W.A. Wine Class Certificate either for yourself or as a gift for some wine lovin' someone in your life (or both!), and get up to a $144 value (three classes of your/their choosing) for only $100. The certificate can be used on both fall and spring classes. Heck, get one for each semester if you want to bone up in a most unbridled fashion! Have a look at the scheduled classes below!
Class Certificate: $100

Tasty Tuesday!
Franck's "Insider's Tour of Bordeaux"!
This Tuesday, October 6th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...
Featuring (in Raleigh only),
Special Guest, Franck!
We're thrilled to announce that dear friend and daring French wine exporter, Franck Agostini, will be joining us at our Raleigh store this Tuesday. (Don't worry, Durham! We're tasting five of Frack's fabulous Bordeaux selections at both locations, but Franck can appear at only one.) Franck has long been the source of some of our favorite wines from Bordeaux, and his home base is actually located in the heart of the region's famous city. He's dashing, fun, and bursting with knowledge and first-hand experience. He's also, understandably, very passionate about his carefully selected portfolio and his hands-on approach to working with his producers and helping them perfect their craft. Come and meet him and some of his great wines from the Haut-Medoc, Fronsac, Graves, Cadillac, and the Entre-Deux-Mers. Mais oui!

Free Saturday Tasting!
From 12-3pm, "try before you buy"
at our FREE Saturday tastings!
The Cote Roannaise, at the far southeastern extreme of the Loire Valley, is closer to Beaujolais and the Northern Rhone than it is to Sancerre or Touraine, and its wines seldom reach us here on this side of the Atlantic. The Sérol family has honed their craft here for five generations, earning their status as a focal point of the area. Specializing in Gamay, Stéphane Sérol, the current carrier of the estate's long-burning torch, seeks to celebrate and illuminate the differences between his parcels of land and how the resultant wines are effected. As a special treat, we'll also feature his awesome, very Northern Rhone-ish Viognier at an unprecedentedly fantastic price. Let's roll with the Sérol!
Domaine Robert Sérol
Cote Roannaise Rosé 2014 "Cabochard"
{sustainable} 100% Gamay
(Southern Loire, France)
CRANBERRY & WHITE CHERRY, RED LICORICE & CANDLE WAX This rosé is a bright, shiny, pink beacon of glorious Gamay goodness, and it's just perfect for "stubborn" people who refuse to try pink wines for fear of their being sweet. In fact Cabochard is French for a stubborn person, and this is a totally dry wine - no sweetness to be found. Stephane Serol has...
Domaine Robert Sérol
{sustainable} 100% Viognier
(Southern Loire, France)
JUICY APRIUM & CLEAN TROPICAL FRUIT, FLORAL & MINERALLY Viognier, the champion white grape of the northernmost reaches of the Rhone Valley inspires passion, and its rarity only serves to enhance our desire for it. Unfortunately, the grape is all-too-often encountered in somewhat overblown caricature mode, bursting with musky spice and sorely lacking in acidity. This Roannaise offering from Stéphane Serol, however, is tirelessly true to the grape's heritage and potential for elegance...
Cote Roannaise Rouge 2013 "Les Originelles"
BRAMBLY RASPBERRY & BLACKBERRY, AROMATIC, JUICY Wow this is Gamay to rave about! Robert Serol is a benchmark producer in the Cote Roannaise region. The estate has vines aging from five to eighty years old. All of his wines exquisitely reflect the terroir of his vineyards. Les Originelles is the sort of wine we wish we could share with every customer in the store...
Cote Roannaise Rouge 2011 "Les Blondins"
(Southern Loire, France)
RIPE FOREST BERRIES, MUSK & MUSCLE IN SPANDEX Robert Serol is a benchmark producer in the Cote Roannaise region. The estate has vines aging from five to eighty years old, yielding ten different wines which each reflect the terroir of the vineyards. The "Blondins" is produced in cooperation with famous 3 star Michelin Chef Pierre Troisgros for...
