Class is in Session!
"Fall Semester" 2015
The phrase "back to school" is sometimes a complicated one. It sometimes simultaneously connotes scholarship, savings, and unimaginable horror. Let's keep those first two and check the third at the door, shall we? We kick off our "fall semester" of classes this October first, and for the first time ever, we're both announcing a year's worth of classes and giving you the opportunity to save substantially on them! Purchase a W.A. Wine Class Certificate either for yourself or as a gift for some wine lovin' someone in your life (or both!), and get up to a $144 value (three classes of your/their choosing) for only $100. The certificate can be used on both fall and spring classes and does not expire. Heck, get one for each semester if you want to bone up in a most unbridled fashion! Take a look at the scheduled classes below!
Class Certificate: $100
(covers three classes)
a value of up to $144!
First up:
"Vine To Wine" Raleigh! October 1st!
7:33 PM - $36 per person
Join us for our first class of the fall! Fun and educational, our concise yet comprehensive "Vine to Wine" class boldly chronicles a vine's life from its spring buds' breaking open to each of its grape's being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we hold so dear. We will cover how vines are grown and wine is made, as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we'll valiantly debunk some of the stubbornest wine myths throughout the two hour class!
Call (919) 831-WINE to purchase tickets!
(includes tasting wines, visual presentation, and handouts)
Real Customer Comment:
"The staff here is super friendly and very knowledgeable but not to the point you feel they are looking down their nose at you. They want to share their passion with you and it shows."

International Grenache Day falls on the third Friday of each September, and we've come to realize that a single day is far to short to sufficiently savor the wonders of Garnacha's Mediterranean majesty! So, we've rolled out a six-pack that celebrates the diversity of the reds, whites, and rosés that result from the variety. These wines clock in at a deep discount, and we're also throwing in a stylish tote for your Cotes-du-Rhone (and company)! It's only $69.99 (plus tax) after a 30% discount! Click here to read more.

This Tuesday, September 22nd, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...
The seasons come and go - sometimes in the blink of an eye. This year's summer seems to be ending almost as quickly as it began! At next week's Tasty Tuesday, we're helping pass the torch from hot and hazy to crisp and colorful in anticipation of fall. We'll begin with a ripe, floral white from France's Fronton with the exotic perfumes of a balmy August evening. From there, we'll consult one of our favorite experts on autumnal flavor, Cab Franc, venturing to the Loire Valley's Saumur. Our final stop finds us in northeastern Italy's Verona, where a Valpolicella Ripasso awaits with clove-ish spice and concentrated dark fruit!

Far from Topless...
We've got all kinds of shirts up in the house! Our "WINE FROM FARMERS NOT FACTORIES" Pitchforkscrew™ shirts have returned in deepest, azure-i-est, "Ocean" teal. For the first time, we are also offering dedicated shapes for both gals and guys! Each style ranges from small to XXL, and are $15.99. Now you've absolutely no excuse to go around naked (not that you necessarily need an excuse). That's not all, however! We're also offering ( currently at our Raleigh store only) a sharply-designed "Brewed NC" shirt to quench the thirst for our passion for local beer! The silhouette of our fair state becomes a horizontally-oriented beer bottle. Available in sky blue and red! $24.99 each. Both the Wine From Farmers: Pitchforkscrew™ and Brewed NC shirts are grown and entirely made right here in NC by our friends at TS Designs!

Free Saturday Tasting!
From 12 to 3 PM, "try before you buy"
at our FREE Saturday tastings!
It's no secret that we love Grenache. The ancient grape both intrigues us and generously satisfies our cravings for spicy reds, refreshing rosés, and fleshy, exotic whites. That's just the thing. Grenache doesn't play coy! When you call, Grenache answers! Yet, even without giving us the run around, the great grape holds our attention, maintains our affection, and retains our respect.
Join us this Saturday, as we raise glass after glass to the Mediterranean maestro, journeying from its beloved Southern Rhone haunts to its northeastern Spanish origins, its historic Sardinian stomping grounds, and back again via a veritable fab five of grandiose Grenache-ish-ness!
Domaine Rocalière
{organic} 60% Grenache Blanc, 40% Clairette
(Southern Rhone, France)
PEACH & PEAR, GINGER & FLORAL SPICE, BOLD & BALANCED Lirac Blanc is often a fantastic substitute for white Chateauneuf du Pape, and at a more reasonable price, it affords people an opportunity to enjoy this luxurious experience on a more frequent basis. Lush and full-flavored, it exudes...
Aliaga
"Lagrima de Garnacha" 2014
{organic} 100% Garnacha
(Navarra, Spain)
PINKALICIOUS, RASPBERRY FRUIT, LEMON ZEST The strikingly bold, bright, color of this rosé is certain to catch your eye, while the name, Lagrima de Garnacha or "Grenache Tears," compels curiosity. Carlos Aliaga is clearly passionate, using only natural yeast and farms organically. This brilliant rosé has us enthralled from the first sip. Bright and crisp with...
CASSIS & FRESH BLACK FIG, WHOLESOME EARTHY LEATHER, BLACK LIME Known as Cannonau in Sardegna and as Grenache or Garnacha almost everywhere else, the fiercely Mediterranean varietal thrives in sun-soaked, arid landscapes. Terrain which might appear pretty unaccommodating to most creatures gives these grapes the perfect environment to do their best work. Rising to the occasion in the rocky, windswept...
(Aragon, Spain)
RICH BLACKBERRY, SPICY FIG, SILKY COCOA Another beautiful take on Aragón's native Garnacha grape from Bodegas Tempore, and this one tips the scales. The iconic "G" only spends four months in oak, which speaks to how naturally luscious and concentrated the juice was before the winemakers plied their trade. Redolent of...
{organic} 80% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 8% Mourvedre
(Southern Rhone, France)
CASSIS & BLUEBERRY, LAVENDER & TOASTY CEDAR, GRACEFULLY ASSERTIVE One of two sister estates owned by the young Francois Meffre and his father, Christian, the Chateau Saint-Jean's vineyards extend from the Southern Rhone's crowning jewel, Chateauneuf du Pape, northward into the sprawling Plan de Dieu. We've long delighted in the reds from the northern vineyards but find ourselves absolutely smitten with this more southerly offering. Born on the gnarled vines...
