More Portals Sighted

in Southern Portugal!
The appearance of still more Portuguese portals can only portend our pouring new arrivals from the Iberian country at our next two tastings! First, on Saturday, we'll focus on one of the most eagerly anticipated new Wine Authorities Selections producers, Quinta de Sant'Ana! It's a tiny estate half an hour north of Lisbon with admirers from all over the world, and we've brought its wines to the United States for the very first time. Then, at next week's Tasty Tuesday, we'll feature three new arrivals from further east in Alentejo from our friends at Lua Cheia. Saúde!

Tasty Tuesday!
Lua Cheia Dois
"Album of Alentejo"
This Tuesday, August 11th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm
At our next Tasty Tuesday, we continue our enthusiastic examinations of new arrivals from Portugal! Last week, we dove into the Douro with gusto. This week, we're headin' south to the land beyond the Tagus river, where we'll be greeted by three more selections from Lua Cheia. This small but prolific producer has not only the Douro estate that we've followed for years but a sister set of vineyards in the south as well. Its wines, which they've entitled "Album," are some of the best values that we've ever encountered from the Alentejo, and they aren't simply great for their price. They're excellent examples of the region's penchant for combining indigenous Portuguese grapes with French and Spanish expats to awesome effect!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Quinta de
Sant'Ana

Nestled away in a picturesque, Atlantic enclave of southern Portugal is Quinta de Sant'Ana. Though only half an hour north of Lisbon, the property is an idyllic farm surrounded by vineyards, sheep, and a curious combination of palms, pines, and deciduous foliage. Ann and James Frost took over the reins of the estate from Ann's parents in 1999 and set to work revolutionizing the vineyards, producing their first vintage half a decade later. Covering territory of just under 30 acres, Sant'Ana is very small, and they use their size to the advantage of quality. These micro-production wines have never been available in our part of the country before, and they're outstanding. We can't wait to share them with you on Saturday!

Rosé 2014

{sustainable}Touriga Nacional, Pinot Noir, Aragonez, Merlot

(Lisboa, Portugal)

TART CHERRY & GOJI BERRY, PALATE-PLEASING ACIDITY
To look at Portugal's Lisboa on a map, one would understandably envision it as probably hot and best suited to dense, extracted reds like the ones associated with many similarly southerly Iberian regions. The reality is astonishingly mild - conducive less to unwieldily powerhouse wines than to elegance and balance

CRISP WHITE PEACH, ORANGE BLOSSOM & FLINT,
PRISTINE & WHOLESOME

Fernão Pires (intermittently better known as Maria Gomes) is the most planted white grape in Portugal for good reason. It's one of the few grapes with a reputation for being able to balance generous yields and generous flavor. When the yields are low, however, the flavors become even more interesting...

(Lisboa, Portugal)
RIPE SUN-WARMED BLACK RASPBERRY, DRIED WILDFLOWERS, ELEGANT MINERALITY
Situated 30 miles northwest of Lisbon on an ancient estate near the Atlantic, Quinta de Sant'Ana benefits from hot days followed by cool nights. With the help of this utopian climate, James and Ann Frost along with their seven sons have produced a Pinot Noir with beautifully balanced elements of...

Touriga Nacional 2011

{sustainable} 100 % Touriga Nacional

(Lisboa, Portugal)

DENSE BLACK PLUM, FIG-LIKE PERFUME & WISPY HERBS, ELEGANTLY FIRM STRUCTURE
Touriga Nacional, associated more with northern Portugal's Douro and Dao than with southerly regions like Lisboa, is undisputedly a national treasure. While significantly less famous than France's Cabernet Sauvignon or Italy's Nebbiolo, this seldom-sung nobleman of the red grape royal court is conducive to exceptionally elegant, structured, imposing wines that linger lengthily on our palates and in...
