  Beat the heat...

with gratuitously great whites!
(and refreshingly radiant ross)
In the throws of our frequent NC heat waves, we take great comfort in knowing that while our air conditioning may fail and our mosquito nets may tear and fray, we can still rely on a treasure trove of brilliantly great whites, ross, and bubblies to help us keep cool. Brand new, deliriously charming examples of each will be featured at this Saturday's free tasting. In fact, we have enough new great whites that "you're going to need a bigger boat." Come on in and take a big chomping bite out of some with us.
But! If you're tired of all this talk of seasonally appealing wines and prefer to drink powerful reds all year long, don't despair! Our Douro tasting next Tuesday is brimming with faves in bold new vintages and an entirely new selection that's guaranteed to put hair on your chest!

Tasty Tuesday!
Lua Cheia Um
"Door to the Douro"
This Tuesday, August 4th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...

5:00 - 7:00 pm
In a recent newsletter, we disclosed our astonishing discovery of a portal from Portugal. This strange wormhole- like phenomenon seems to be siphoning all sorts of unexplained, unexpected, unctuous wines from the Iberian country's varied viticultural landscape and depositing them right here, in the Triangle...at astoundingly reasonable prices. We fully expect to win the Nobel Prize in physics for this discovery.
Portugal's Douro River Valley offers some of the most breathtaking scenery associated with the production of wine. Its famously steep, terraced vineyards recall an alien yet beautiful landscape just waiting to be explored.  Join us as we explore them a bit at this week's Tasty Tuesday with our attention fixed on Lua Cheia, a champion of tradition, value, and innovation! This is a door to the Douro.
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Tour de France:
"Layering the Loire"

Fiefs Vendens & Anjou
(feat. Mourat & Cady)
At this week's free Saturday Tasting, we're exploring just a few of the awesome new arrivals from J. Mourat and Domaine Cady, two producers who have just joined our stable of Wine Authorities Selections. We'll begin in the little-known, far western reaches of the Loire Valley, south of the land of Muscadet. The Fiefs Vendens is a corner of France that's just beginning to find an international audience, and once you taste the wines of J. Mourat, we're confident that you'll be as excited as we are about this frontier. Further east, in the Chenin-centric Anjou, we'll encounter the outstanding (and startlingly affordable) work of the Cady family. By the time we've wrapped our tasting-tour, we'll have had a thorough sampling of these regions' best loved specialties and innovative offerings!

Blanc 2014
"Clos Saint Andre"

{organic} 90% Chenin Blanc,

10% Chardonnay

(Loire Meridionale, France)

LEMON & TART APRICOT, OCEANIC PERFUME, QUINCE & HONEY
This utopian white comes courtesy of immaculate attention to detail (both in the vineyard and during vinification). Staunchly organic practices and architecturally-inspiring Nomblot concrete egg fermentation/aging make clear that no effort has been spared to bring this gleaming, radiant creature to life

Domaine Cady
Crmant de Loire

{organic} 100% Chenin Blanc

(Middle Loire, France)

ZESTY CITRUS & TANGY APPLE, FLINT, GINGER & BISCUIT
The cooler, more northerly regions of France have no shortage of vibrant, elegant sparkling wine to contribute. Joining Champagne are Alsace, Jura, Burgundy, and perhaps most famously, the Loire. Here, Chenin is served extremely well by tendency toward mouthwatering...

Ros de Loire 2014

{organic} 50% Cabernet Franc, 50% Grolleau

(Middle Loire, France)
CHERRY & TART DAMSON PLUM, JUICY & CRISP, WISPY MINERAL
A collaboration between the famous Cabernet Franc and the decidedly less famous but very ros-friendly workhorse grape, Grolleau, this vibrant, ruby-tented sipper is an elegantly expressive and beautifully balanced representative of what we love about Middle Loire ros. While it hails from Anjou, it's a very different beast from the famously off-dry...

Rouge 2014
"Chateau Marie du Fou"

{Organic} Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Negrette

(Loire Meridionale, France)

BRAMBLY LOGANBERRY, AUTUMNAL UNDERBRUSH, CHARRED GREEN PEPPER SKINS

As deeply purple as the shale soil that feeds its vines, the "Marie du Fou" cuve takes its name mysteriously from a colloquial french phrase that is applied to carefree country girls. While there is arguably a kind of feminine intrigue that is demure yet chiseled and no shortage of terroir-driven suggestions of unspoiled countryside, we find this red to be more measured and elegant than carefree...
