Spin the wheel!
Some choices are difficult enough that they must be left to chance. Fortunately, we don't need to choose between bikes and wines. We can have both, and we do! This week, we've launched our series of Tour de France tastings, and on Saturday we have a special tie-in and special guests on site at both our Durham and Raleigh stores! As we sample the rare wines of the outstanding Ventoux vigneron, Cave Aureto for the first time in the US, we are reminded that the estate's owner is also responsible for the revered bicycles of BMC. The Triangle's Inside Out Sports joins us to talk about cycling and show off some really beautiful BMC bikes as we showcase the wines of Cave Aureto at this Saturday's free tasting. A match made in Ventoux! No, we're not just spinning our wheels. This is a Saturday not to be missed! Bike by daylight, drink wine by moonlight. Rinse and repeat. It's a delicious cycle!
But wait! There's Tour de France goodness to explore throughout the month! We're delving deeper into the many new selections that we've lately acquired from the land of the rising baguette. July is a tour de force celebration of "Tour de France" at Wine Authorities, and we'll follow the rapidly peddling athletes on their journey. Take a look at the tastings we have lined up in the side bar to the right...

Tasty Tuesday!
What's new with Negrette?
This Tuesday, July 14th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...
Next Tuesday, in our month-long "Tour de France" series of tastings, we celebrate the arrival of the tour's cyclists to Southwestern France from Brittany with new wines from... where else? Southwestern France and (just below) Brittany! The mysterious Negrette grape is a denizen of both locales (and not many others)! Typically associated with the vineyards just north of Toulouse and a scattering of regions to its east, the grape also makes an unlikely home just south of Muscadet country in the Loire valley, where it brings the same kind of elegantly spicy intrigue to the local wines that has won legions of new admirers for its work in the south. Check out what's new with Negrette!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Race to Mont Ventoux w/ Aureto
The Mont Ventoux is one of the most iconic landscapes encountered by the cyclists of the Tour de France. Far from simply being a place to struggle while riding your bike, the Ventoux region is part of the the Southern Rhone and overlooks the beautiful Mediterranean countryside of Provence! Needless to say, they grow healthy, happy grapes there. Cave Aureto is a rising producer striving to elevate the region's stature (not a pun!) without compromising the character of these historically humble but very distinctive wines. We'll be debuting these beautiful wines for the first time in the United States! The trio that we'll be tasting this Saturday is bold, beautiful, and almost as imposing as the mount itself!
We're joined this Saturday by Inside Out Sports, the premier Triangle hub of BMC bikes (bicycles from Cave Aureto co-owner Andreas Rihs). Inside Out's Carey will join us at our Durham shop while the shops' Chad will be present at our Raleigh shop. They'll be doing complementary bike checks for our customers and giving out a few prizes. How awesome! Cheers!
Aureto
Luberon Rouge 2012 "Petit Miracle"
65% Syrah, 35% Grenache
(Southern Rhone, France)
BERRYISH BLACKNESS, VIBRANT PINPRICKS OF PEPPER, GARGANTUAN GARRIGUES In the southesternmost reaches of France's Rhone Valley, stretching out below Ventoux into Provence, the Cotes du Luberon are provided with monumental doses of Mediterranean influence and stone-soaking sunshine. With a climate and terroir like those found here, scarcely any miracle is necessary in order to yield a sturdy, broad...
Aureto
Ventoux Rouge 2011 "Maestrale"
70% Syrah, 20% Grenache,
10% Carignan
(Southern Rhone, France)
CONCENTRATED DARK FRUIT, CHOCOLATE & EARTH, BLACK PEPPER Where the Rhone Valley meets Provence, the Cotes du Ventoux region takes its name from the imposing peak which it surrounds. Not content to simply count itself among the most memorable landscapes along the Tour de France circuit, Ventoux and its sun soaked vineyards...
35% Cabernet Sauvignon,
30% Caladoc, 25% Marselan,
10% Syrah
(Southern Rhone, France)
GLEAMING BLACKBERRY, LEATHERY EARTH, PEPPER Though retaining the concentrated ripeness and intense Mediterranean spice that we associate with the Rhone/Provence's traditional grape varieties, this bold red features a more experimental cast of characters. Cabernet Sauvignon, while certainly no stranger to Provence, has joined an ensemble featuring Caladoc (the twisted lovechild of Grenache & Malbec) and Marselan (a crossing of Grenache & Cabernet)...
