Grenache & Gallets

Our next two tastings bask in the Mediterranean glory that is Grenache. We begin, on Saturday, by tracing the famed varietal back to its northern Spanish birthplace of Aragón. Then, at next week's Tasty Tuesday, we'll follow the grape to the southwestern reaches of France's Rhone valley for fantastic new rosé from Tavel, as well as a bold red, and voluptuous white (courtesy of Grenache's white-skinned mutation, Grenache Blanc). Gotcha, Garnacha!
Why, thank you!

The Gargantuan Garnacha Values of
Bodegas Tempore!
Introducing Finca La Cañada!
If the phrase "Kingdom of Aragón" evokes thoughts for you of an imposing landscape filled with ancient castles and fortified cities, then you're on the right track, but there's also treasure in the hills, and that powerfully purpley quarry is the equally ancient Garnacha grape. Garnacha (or, as the french call it, Grenache) is a native to these northern Spanish climes, and it continues to reach its rich, ripe zenith in this arid and awe-inspiring environment. Join us on Saturday for a tangy rosé, three exemplary reds featuring the varietal at work as well a fantastic young Tempranillo. Two of these selections, the "Finca La Cañada" wines, are completely new and among the best values we've encountered in ages. Garnacha guaranteed!

Rosado de Garnacha 2014

{organic} 100% Garnacha

(Aragón, Spain)

Aragón might take its name from an ancient kingdom and countryside littered with the ruins of imposing fortresses and medieval castles, but there's nothing imposing or ancient about this delightfully tangy rosé made from the region's native Garnacha grape. Its striking fuchsia iridescence...

Tempranillo 2014
"Finca La Cañada"

{organic} 100% Tempranillo

(Aragón, Spain)

The Finca La Cañada is a vineyard recently planted by Bodegas Tempore using the same focus on quality, organic viticulture, and grape character as their "Terrae" and "G" wines. Just south of Rioja, this area is no stranger to making...

Garnacha 2014

{organic} 100% Garnacha

(Aragón, Spain)

From this area, the birthplace of the Grenache/Garnacha grape, comes this lovely, refreshingly fruity red. And no, it's not from Canada, eh? (bonus info: The label is made from stone paper, instead of wood paper.) Another new Wine Authorities exclusive...

Bodegas Tempore
Garnacha Joven 2013
{organic} 100% Grenache

(Aragón, Spain)

The Yago Aznar family continues a long history of respectful farming practices and viticultural sensibilities, evident in their organic "Terrae" wines. Their old vine Garnacha grapes ripen on the arid plains where Zaragoza, Teruel, and Bajo Aragón meet...
Bodegas Tempore
Garnacha 2010
{sustainable} 100% Garnacha

(Aragón, Spain)

Another beautiful take on Aragón's native Garnacha grape from Bodegas Tempore, and this one tips the scales. The iconic "G" only spends four months in oak, which speaks to how naturally luscious and concentrated...
