We're Exorcising Winter
With Wine!
With the past week's bizarre and unpredictable (indeed taunting!) shifts in weather, we've finally had enough. It may sound extreme, but we think that an exorcism is in order. The best and only weapon at our disposal is a well tested one. Wine! We've always advocated the joys of drinking seasonally, but now we call upon the divine powers of wine to help ask winter to RAISE UP! Sublimely mineralistic whites, vibrantly lean rosé, and ripe, powerful reds (for what we hope will be refreshingly cool but no longer cold nights) are the order of the day. So put down your Ouija board and join us as we chase winter away this Saturday. The power of wine compels you!
Domaine de la Chauvinière
Muscadet Sèvre et Main 2013 Sur Lie
{organic} 100% Melon
(Loire Atlantique, France)
CLEAN PEAR & LIME, CHALKY MINERAL, VERY VERY DRY Holy Moly! We weren't sure if we were ready for this one! Possibly the driest tasting wine in the store. "It don't get no drier," said one fan. If you are curious about experiencing a wine with a very minerally flavor, but haven't identified that flavor yet, here is your chance...
Akarregi Txiki
100% Hondarribi Zuri (Getaria, Basque Country)
TRADEMARK TXAKOLICIOUS MINERAL & EFFERVESCENCE Lasalde Elkartea is a big man with giant hands. He comes from a cattle farming family, but left this tradition to follow his love of the zippy Basque wine. Glimmering with green zestiness and bright golden fruit, this phenomenal value in Txakoli layers the signature mineral and blazing acidity that we crave from...
Michel Girard
Sancerre Rosé 2013
100% Pinot Noir
(Eastern Loire, France)
TANGY STRAWBERRY, HAUNTING MINERALITY, HERBACEOUS Pinot Noir is what we might call the other grape of Sancerre. For very few of us does the appellation's name evoke thoughts of the regal red grape, but its presence in Sancerre predates that of the region's contemporary star, Sauvignon Blanc. While the reds are a rarity (accounting for significantly less than 20% of the region's production), the rosés are even more seldom-encountered...
(Eastern Languedoc, France)
DENSE BLACKBERRY & SMOKE, HERBES DE PROVENCE Perennially one of our favorite Syrah-based wines, this stunning value has regularly garnered comparisons to the bold reds of Cornas in the northern Rhone, but at half the price...
Douro Tinto 2011 "Andreza"
40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinto Roriz
FIRM PLUM & DRIED MISSION FIG, WISPS OF CEDAR & VANILLA Representing a somewhat more modernist slant on the classically dark and elegantly rugged unfortified reds of the Douro valley, Lua Cheia's "Andreza" is named for a particularly stunning bend among the region's otherworldly (and very steep) vineyard-scape. The typical purple-black fruit and...
