We're going to party
like it's 2015!
Welcome to January, 2015! We hope that everyone's shiny new year is beginning spectacularly! We've just celebrated the 1st birthday of our Raleigh store (they grow up so fast!) and will continue celebrating this weekend with four Wine Authorities Selections™ of tremendous value at our Saturday tasting - a great way to get our new year off on the right foot!
Yes, the month of January is an opportunity to begin anew, but it also provides us with unique opportunities to officially and confusedly celebrate some (often food- related) phenomena while bewaring of others. In the past, we've discussed the probable connection between its serving as both "Bath Safety Month" and "National Soup Month," but it's become clear that this is only the tip of the iceberg where January is concerned.
At first, January appears to be a haven of vegetarianism and, indeed, fruitarianism with the distinction of having both "Artichoke & Asparagus Month" and "Apple & Apricot Month" titles under its belt. But wait! In a bewildering and disconcertingly vague move, it's also "National Meat Month." Vagueness and "meat" don't play well together, after all. It's also "National Radon Action Month" which probably shouldn't conjure notions of nostalgic super heroes and mad scientists of the atomic age but somehow manages to...at least for some of us.
Perhaps on a more practical note, January is also "Walk Your Pet Month," which we encourage owners of energetic dogs and irritable cats to take advantage of, albeit for very different reasons. You might not want to celebrate "Walk Your Pet Month" if you're an aquarium enthusiast as that could turn tragic rather quickly...at least without the proper equipment.

This Tuesday, January 13th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting! Every Tuesday is tasty...
Sometimes winter swoops in with falcon precision and relentlessly icy talons. Other times, it shambles around with the vague amicability of snow monsters from 1960s and 70s Japanese television programs about gigantic, silver, heroic aliens... In any case, our weather these days may continue to be relatively mild, but many of us find ourselves cranking up the heat after sundown. We're here to remind you that it is far more environmentally sound, economical, and fun to simply pour a glass (or two) of port and curl up by the fire with a good book. Join us this Tuesday for three wintry wines that are sure to warm things up!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Post-Holiday Budget Recovery
Featuring the French
Budget-Busting Brigade!
The all-too-familiar, post-holiday, collective cry of "my wallet hurts!" has once again been raised, and once again, we have selected four fabulously flavorful wines that won't complicate your next credit card bill or bank statement. No! These expressive but inexpensive beauties have the tenacious tastiness that one might demand from selections clocking in at twice the price. At this year's first Saturday tasting, we're featuring some classic French specialties. Each offering is a Wine Authorities Selection, so not only can it count itself among our very favorites, it is a hand-picked, remarkable value that can't be found anywhere else in our part of the country (and in some cases, anywhere else in the United States)!
Domaine de la Chauvinière
Muscadet Sèvre et Main 2013
Sur Lie
{organic} 100% Melon de Bourgogne
(Loire Atlantique, France)
PEAR & BRIGHT LIME, CHALKY MINERALIT. VERY, VERY DRY! Holy Moly! We weren't sure if we were ready for this one! Possibly the driest tasting wine in the store. "It don't get no drier," said one fan. If you are curious about experiencing a wine with a very minerally flavor, but haven't identified that flavor yet, here is your chance. The minerality lingers on the finish...
Domaine Robert Serol
Cote Roannaise Rosé 2013
"Cabochard"
{sustainable} 100% Gamay (Southern Loire, France)
CRANBERRY & WHITE CHERRY, RED LICORICE & CANDLE WAX This rosé is a bright, shiny, pink beacon of glorious Gamay goodness, and it's just perfect for "stubborn" people who refuse to try pink wines for fear of their being sweet. In fact Cabochard is French for a stubborn person, and this is a totally dry wine - no sweetness to be found. Stephane Serol has been head of the estate for the last...
Hérault Rouge 2013 "Le Fruit Défendu"
{sustainable} 90% Cinsault, 10% Grenache (Languedoc, France) JUICY PLUM & CHERRY; SOFT, FRAGRANT SMOKINESS This unusually Cinsault-driven red is built to be guzzled in vast quantities at parties and barbecues throughout the year. It's so approachable, so beautifully textured, and the fruit-to-spice ratio is just right. A fantastic wine at a frankly astounding price...
Rhone Rouge 2010 "Vin de Méditerranée"
{organic} 100% Grenache
(Southern Rhone, France)
RASPBERRY, LAVENDER & THYME, WHITE PEPPER This is winegrower Daniel Couston's unbelievable value red, never exported outside of France until now! Only sold to local restaurants in the vicinity of the winery, once we tried it, we had to have it. Estate grown, delicious organic red...
