Tasty Tuesday:
Beaucoup
(only three, actually)
Beaujolais!
This Tuesday, November 18th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
Beajolais provides us with some of the most famously turkey-friendly wines of all! The region's bold and bright Gamay grape yields juicy, low-tannin reds that play nicely with the strange but delicious mishmash that constitutes the classic Thanksgiving spread. At next week's Tasty Tuesday, uncover three examples of this marvelous region's lively and lovely wines including a tangily refreshing rosé from the masterful Jean-Paul Brun and a pair of reds from Domaine Piret that we've long counted among our very favorites. We're going all the way with Beaujolais!
P.S. 2014's Beaujolais Nouveau hits the shelves on the third Thursday of November (the 20th)!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Thanksgiving Selections 2014

Part One
Ahhh, Thanksgiving: the quintessential American holiday of feasting, football, and...family. Yes, hordes upon hordes of our nearest and dearest descend upon us like clouds of hungry locusts (enormous, talking locusts which we are compelled to feed). Joking aside, we love our families! But when it's our homes which have been sanctioned as the venues for this year's togetherness, it can prove a bit taxing emotionally and/or financially. Luckily, Wine Authorities is here to help! Join us this Saturday (in Durham only) for an in-depth look at four of our top 2014 Thanksgiving pics - wines that have blown our minds with tremendous, value-oriented deliciousness! Plus, they go great with turkey, football, and crazy uncles with unconventional hygienic ideals...
Domaine Gouron
Chinon Rosé 2013
{sustainable} 100% Cabernet Franc
(Middle Loire, France)
PERFUMY, FLORAL & HERBAL. CHOCOLATE, CHERRY & PEPPER "Nos vies dans rosé" Our lives in pink! With Gouron's tiny production of Cabernet Franc rosé this dry pink wine is a rare yearly tease. Perfumy aromas with bits of chocolate and cherry make us salivate at the first whiff. The sexy richness and silky texture are just heavenly...
{sustainable} 45% Sauvignon Blanc, 45% Sauvignon Gris, 10% Muscadelle (Bordeaux, France)
EXOTIC, FLORAL & LIVELY, LYCHEE, GRAPEFRUIT & PEACH Always one of the best values in white Bordeaux, this crisp, aromatic white gives so much and costs so little. The Buffeteau family has now been farming this estate for three generations and over the last ten years has updated their winery with modern...
{biodynamic} 100% Zweigelt (Burgenland, Austria) DEEPLY EARTHY & SMOKY, BLACK CHERRY & SPICE We've always adored Meinklang's Pinot Gris from their "Graupert" series - wines produced from vines that are allowed to grow wild and wooly - so it's no surprise that the Zweigelt bowled us over. This is a wild, rich red packed with bright, serious dark fruit and an unruly streak of mushroomy earth...
Lisboa Tinto 2010 "Cigarra"
30% Castelão, 30% Camarate,
30% Touriga Nacional, 10% Trincadeira
(Lisbon, Portugal)
JUICY RED BERRY & PLUM, SLIGHTLY SPICY, FRESH & SUPPLE A four-varietal blend showcasing the fresh, juicy appeal of the Camarate and Castelâo grapes, the Cigarra layers comforting dimensions of ripe fruit with spicy aromatic appeal, maintaining a lovely affability without compromising the rich dried berry flavors and mouth filling concentration that we've come to rely on from...

Klaus's Austrian Selections!
Starring Klaus!
This Saturday, we welcome our friend Klaus Wittauer back to Wine Authorities and introduce him to our Raleigh store! Klaus loves wine and is passionate about sharing the marvels emerging from his homeland of Austria. His diverse portfolio of Austrian producers is running over with gems - ambassadors for Austria's most distinctive specialties which consistently offer both excellent quality and superb value. Below is a rundown of the wines which are to be poured this Saturday (only in Raleigh) by Klaus, and they are all up in the house. Prost!
Leo Hillinger
"Secco"
{sustainable} 100% Pinot Noir
(Burgenland, Austria)
LIGHT STRAWBERRY, MINERALS, SOFT MOUSSE Leo Hillinger's secco is a dry Pinot Noir rosé sparkling gem made in the same manner as Italy's Prosecco wines. The color is a pale ruby hue and shows light strawberry fruit on the nose. There's a touch of minerality that weaves...
Grüner Veltliner 2012 "Grand Grü"
100% Grüner Veltliner (Kamptal, Austria)
JUICY WHITE STONE FRUIT, MINERALITY, POWER & ELEGANCE This Grüner from the Kamptal of Lower Austria can count itself among them, offering a steadfast tide of mouthwatering green and golden fruit interlaced with flinty mineral. It balances its firm acidity with vibrant juiciness and an impression of roundness derived, in part, from a luxurious fermentation and on-the-lees aging in large acacia barrels...
100% Riesling
(Wachau, Austria)
LAZER DRY. PINEAPPLE, MANGO, LIME & RICH MINERALITY Get it before he becomes a superstar and his prices go through the roof. Martin Mittelbach is one of the greats right now, but his reputation has not hit the mainstream or the critics yet. This dry Riesling from his terraced, hillside vineyards in the prestigious Wachau is the kind of wine that makes...
{biodynamic} 100% Zweigelt
DEEPLY EARTHY & SMOKY, BLACK CHERRY & SPICE
We've always adored Meinklang's Pinot Gris from their "Graupert" series - wines produced from vines that are allowed to grow wild and wooly - so it's no surprise that the Zweigelt bowled us over. This is a wild, rich red packed with bright, serious dark fruit and an unruly streak of mushroomy earth...
