The ancient Romans referred to them as "The Dog Days" because the passage of the star Sirius (the dog star) heralded a few sweltering weeks of toga sweat (at best) and plague (at worst). Fortunately, astrology and pestilence don't concern us as much in today's enlightened times, so we can kick back with a cold beverage and enjoy these days of lassitude. In fact, we can call this time of year whatever we want! Welcome to the [insert quadruped of choice] Days of Summer. Won't you join us for some wine?

The ninth wonder of the world (our beautiful Rosé Garden) has re-sprouted in all it's pink, juicy glory. In fact, we have two gardens for the first time this year and a whole new cadre of gardeners to tend our Raleigh Rosé. Old favorites have returned along with the requisite new arrivals, and (as always) we will donate a portion of our rosé sales throughout the year to breast cancer research. So come shop in our magnificent garden. New rosé selections are continuously blooming, and you never know what might surface next!

This Tuesday, July 5th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
Stretching out just below Barcelona along Spain's northwest coast is the picturesque land of Cava, but Cava isn't the only treasure we'll find in Penedès! This Tuesday, we'll begin with a taste of the region's trademark bubbly courtesy of one of our favorite producers, Mas Codina, before turning our attention toward a couple of the estate's more unique specialties - a deeply colored rosé which borders on red and a luscious but firmly structured blend featuring Cabernet and a pinch of Merlot. Come along with us to Catalonia!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
Thigh High
in the Piemonte
Italy's northwestern reaches sprawl gently over the alpine foothills and provide wine lovers the world over with a diverse array of bold and distinctive specialties unlike those of any other region. This Saturday, we're featuring four very different faces of Piemontese wine, beginning with the pan-northwestern Italian white, Vermentino (here called "Favorita"). Next, we're excited to present the highly unique product of Castillo di Verduno's enterprising imagination, an example of the red (and aphrodisiacal) Pelaverga Piccolo grape vinified as a white wine! Fresh, floral Ruchè provides us with our first red (courtesy of glorious one-liter bottles from Luca Ferraris). The tasting's grand finale is, suitably, a gorgeous Barolo - an unusually affordable example of the Piemonte's king of wines. Bring your waders. This Saturday, we're thigh high in the wines of Italy's northwest.
Terrabianca
Favorita 2012
"Quattro"
100% Favorita (Vermentino)
(Langhe, Piemonte)
HONEYSUCKLE, TART GREEN APPLE PIE, TOASTED WALNUTS Winegrower Giorgio Alpiste names his wines after the parcel of land on which the grapes are grown. In the case of "Quattro 20 (Venti)" (or "four winds") his Favorita vines flourish on the sandy, south-facing slopes of his family's farm in the Piemonte town of Mango, where refracted sunlight from the Ligurian...
Castillo di Verduno
Verduno Bianco 2012 "Bellis Perennis"
100% Pelaverga (Langhe, Piemonte)
CRISP PEAR & TANGY APRICOT, MINERAL, DELICATE YEASTINESS With this beautiful white (vinified skinlessly from the red Pelaverga grape), Castello di Verduno has proven three things. Firstly, everything they touch turns to gold (in this case, almost literally). Secondly, despite the estate's traditionalist priorities, they're tirelessly adventurous and innovative. And finally, they've proven....
100% Ruchè (Monferrato, Piemonte) DEEP PURPLE, LUSH FRUIT, CLOVE, BALANCED STRUCTURE How many Ruchès have you tried? This rare grape varietal is found on the hills of Basso Monferrato between the Po and Tanaro rivers. On this hill Luca has designated a vineyard "Bric d'Bianc," to the Ruchè grape. There is very little known about its origin. Much of what is known is through oral...
Reverdito
Barolo 2010
100% Nebbiolo
(Langhe, Piemonte)
BOLD RED PLUM & DRIED CHERRY, CHESTNUT & CINNAMON Michele Reverdito and his sister Sabina didn't start producing wine until 2000. Before that, however, their family farm had been host to herds of cattle which (we imagine) had a distinctly positive impact on the soil. This wine is shot through...
