In light of some delicious new additions, it's time to focus on one of the oft-overlooked corners of Wine Authorities: the "cocktail" section. Some of our most complex, mysterious, and intensely flavored selections call these shelves home. We've got various vermouths, mixers, and bitters for your Manhattans and Martinis; elixir-like aromatized wines for aper-and-diges-tifs; and a brace of silky, heady, luxurious fortified wines. The whole section has been given a makeover, and it's lookin' real, real nice. So pause and peruse our Cocktail Section on your way back to the tasting bar on Saturday, and be sure to ask for a recommendation.

The ninth wonder of the world (our beautiful Rosé Garden) has re-sprouted in all it's pink, juicy glory. In fact, we have two gardens for the first time this year and a whole new cadre of gardeners to tend our Raleigh Rosé. Old favorites have returned along with the requisite new arrivals, and (as always) we will donate a portion of our rosé sales throughout the year to breast cancer research. So come shop in our magnificent garden. New rosé selections are continuously blooming, and you never know what might surface next!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
Right Bank Rhone
The Rhone's "Right Bank" appears to the left of the river's depictions on maps and includes some of the valley's best kept secrets. While the most famous appellations of the Right Bank exist in the Syrah-centric far north, we're honing our sights on the region's more Mediterranean reaches at this Saturday's free tasting. Tavel's famously rich rosé "of kings" is represented along with a brilliant and voluptuous white (made from Roussanne and Viognier) and two profound, intensely concentrated, Grenache-driven reds - one which originates just across the river from Chateauneuf du Pape and the other hailing from the northern extreme of the southerly Rhone Méridionale. Enter stage right!
Chateau Marjolet
Cotes Du Rhone Blanc
{organic} 60% Roussanne, 40% Viognier
(Laudun, Southern Rhone)
CRISP PEACH, MINERAL, WHITE BLOSSOMY PERFUME, GINGER & BEESWAX Located in Laudun (just across the Rhone River from Chateauneuf du Pape), Chateau de Marjolet's strikingly stony vineyards may remind the casual onlooker more of a lunar landscape than a cradle of viticultural excellence, but the rows of gnarled vines are an unmistakable sign that something exciting is happening here...
Domaine Amido
Tavel 2013 "Les Amandines"
{sustainable} 65% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 10% Syrah, 5% Clairette (Tavel, Southern Rhone)
RICH CHERRY, STRAWBERRY & BALSAMIC WITH A DRY FINISH. Young Amandine and her fiancé Antoine have now taken over for her recently deceased grandfather Christian Amido. They make lovely, but rich tasting rosé from their Tavel vineyard, and bold red from their vineyard in Lirac....
Cotes du Rhone 2012 "Khayyäm"
[biodynamic] 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre (Southern Ardèche, Southern Rhone) RASPBERRY & DRIED CRANBERRY, ROSEMARY & EARTH "Drink wine. This is life eternal," famously wrote the ever beauty-seeking Omar Khayyam, and 800 years later, his attitudes and observations resound with timelessness. The Thibon sisters of Mas de Libian have named this delicious cuvée after the 12th century Persian poet and philosopher, and its exotic perfume of rosemary, lavender, and cocoa combine with violet-fruited romance...
Chateau de Marjolet
Cotes du Rhone Villages 2012 Lirac "Cuvée Tradition"
{organic} 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah
(Lirac, Southern Rhone)
BLACK RASPBERRY & CASSIS, DARK CHOCOLATE, FLORAL Like the best producers of the southern Rhone, Chateau de Marjolet crafts wines which are deft performers of a balancing act, finding that delightful middle ground between power and finesse. With the precision of a tightrope walker, this red from the village of Laudun brings a restrained clarity of dark fruit...
