In a whirlwind of happenstance and intent, events have transpired to make this week all about Germany. We here at Wine Authorities are very fond of our Teutonic friends; in fact, the Poobah himself arrived in Frankfurt am Main on the same day that the German team won the 2014 World Cup! We're sure he walked into an outpouring of both patriotic joy and delicious wine. Follow his adventures here and here. Futbol victories and adventurous travel also coincide with our annual celebration of the worldwide phenomenon that is the 31 Days of German Riesling. We're celebrating with an epic tasting on Saturday showcasing the stunning breadth of this heroic grape, so come join us for some weinprobe spaß*. Prost!

The ninth wonder of the world (our beautiful Rosé Garden) has re-sprouted in all it's pink, juicy glory. In fact, we have two gardens for the first time this year and a whole new cadre of gardeners to tend our Raleigh Rosé. Old favorites have returned along with the requisite new arrivals, and (as always) we will donate a portion of our rosé sales throughout the year to breast cancer research. So come shop in our magnificent garden. New rosé selections are continuously blooming, and you never know what might surface next!

This Tuesday, July 22nd, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
Savoie, France's oft-overlooked Alpine paradise, brims with unique wines and grapes seldom seen outside the region. Join us at our next Tuesday tasting as we delve into a few of these mountain specialties. We'll regale you with not one but two examples of lean, minerally white produced from the Jacquère grape (from the appellations of Jongieux and Chignin) and a firm, earthy, and refreshingly tangy red made from the ancient Mondeuse grape. The mysterious, mountainous wines of Savoie will be mysterious no more, and you won't even need a ski lift to get to our tasting bar!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
The "Summer of Riesling" continues, and the "31 Days of German Riesling," which many of us still refer to as July, is well underway. This Saturday, we're planning to celebrate the origins of this majestic grape with a tasting of five brilliant Rieslings from the Rheinhessen, Mosel, and Pfalz. Bright, minerally, and magically complex, this quintet hammers home the essential character of German Riesling and simultaneously shows off its diversity. Sprechen sie Deutsch? Not much, but we certainly speak the language of German Riesling!
Fitz-Ritter
Riesling Sekt
"Extra Trocken"
100% Riesling
(Pfalz, Germany)
FINE, ENERGETIC MOUSSE. ZESTY, ELEGANT, & REFRESHINGLY DRY! Family owned and operated since 1817, the oldest Sekt producer in the Pfalz region of Germany makes brilliantly dry and lively sparkling wines from the illustrious Riesling grape. Focusing on this German queen of white varietals instead of the traditional French grapes associated with Champagne...

Riesling 2011 "Blauschiefer"
{sustainable} 100% Riesling (Mosel, Germany)
LEMON & GORGEOUS FLINTINESS, RACY ACIDITY, VERY CHISELED Focused, firm, and with a brilliantly romantic clarity, the "Blauschiefer" offers tremendous value in dry Mosel Riesling. Hailing from one of the coolest parts of Europe where viticulture is still a sensible thing to pursue, it almost conjures on the palate an impression of the cold waters of the Mosel itself and of the precariously beautiful south-facing slopes upon...
100% Riesling (Mosel, Germany) LEMON & CANTALOUPE, CLEAN, CRISP, & DRY Crisp and light with plenty of complexity and intense aromatics, it took one taste of this absolutely delicious dry riesling and we clutched the bottle to our chest and glared at our colleagues with wild, suspicious eyes. It was one of those...
Weingut Dr. Heyden
Riesling 2012 Oppenheimer Kabinett
{organic} 100% Riesling (Rheinhessen, Germany)
GLIMMERINGLY CRISP, BRILLIANT AND LEMONY When Karl Heyden's son, Frank, took over winemaking at the family estate, he went to work catapulting quality to new heights. With a deep commitment to sustainable agriculture, the Heyden family is a leader not only in quality but environmentally friendly agriculture as well. Super fine balance along...
Seebrich
Riesling Spätlese 2012 "Niersteiner Hipping"
{organic} 100% Riesling
(Rheinhessen, Germany)
LIGHTLY SWEET & TART, GREEN APPLE, LEMON, PEACH & HONEY This is Spätlese reaching its logical conclusion - a perfect balance of refreshing acidity, and the lovely ripe fruit and honey character of grapes harvested slightly late. The Rhine's Nierstein village is home to the steep Hipping hillside vineyard, with its famous red slate and clay soil contributing a...
