We here at Wine Authorities have gotten seriously into all the Hot Futbol Action going down in Brazil this summer. We thrill to the feats of athleticism, groan at the foppish flop fakery, and pretend not to be absolutely baffled by the rules. Occasionally (like, every few days) a goal is scored, and if you're anything like us you scream yourself hoarse when that happens. We also know that watching all this soccer is thirsty work, especially with the asphalt-melting heat wave in whose midst we find ourselves. Come see us for your World Cup Refreshment needs (including great ideas for summery wine cocktails at our Annual pre-July Fourth Wine Cocktail tasting this Saturday). Our message is clear:
Don't overlook wine cocktails...

We will be closed on Friday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day and will reopen to our normal business hours on Friday, July 5th.
As, always, have a safe and happy fourth!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh

Our annual compendium of cockamamie wine concoctions continues...
This Saturday (June 28th), it's time again for one of our most anticipated tastings of the year. Each weekend before July 4th, we celebrate by pouring wine cocktails in place of the standalone wine selections which we typically feature. This year, we're very happy to present two new favorites: a Pizzeria Toro-inspired delight from our friends at Alley 26 and a summery treat devised by Stanbury's Andrew Shepherd featuring northwestern Italy's Moscato d'Asti. Our signature W.A. Sangria will also be returning along with a Francophilic and funky shandy! Needless to say, these imaginative concoctions are delicious, fun, and proven to help spur your creativity next weekend before you begin blowing stuff up with M-80's and cherry bombs. Bottoms up!
Aliaga & Mas Codina
W.A. Red Sangria
(Navarra & Penedès, Spain) Tempranillo Joven & Cava Brut Our latest and greatest recipe for a classic Sangria, an indispensable refreshment for the hot weather! We recommend Aliaga's Tempranillo for the red wine base and Mas Codina's Cava Brut to add invigorating spritz...
Stanbury w/ Terrabianca
"Mosquito"
(Piemonte, Italy) Moscato d'Asti, Mint, & Lime
Andrew Shepherd of the excellent new Stanbury restaurant (and Wine Authorities, ahem) brings us this uber-refreshing take on the Mojito. Rum is replaced with Moscato d'Asti, which takes care of the light sweetness, the bubbles, and the alcohol. All that's left to do is muddle some limes with fresh mint and blend over ice. Much tastier than your garden-variety bloodsucking pest....
Terrabianca Moscato: On Sale! $13.99 [Full Description]
Alley Twenty Six w/ Cappelletti & Carpano
"Alley Dreams of Toro"
{sustainable} 100% Riesling (Piemonte & Alto Adige, Italy)
Americano & Vermouth BiancoAlley 26 opened less than two years ago, but it's been a beacon of cocktail excellence from day one. In fact, readers of the Indy voted this cozy Durham bar to not only have the best bartender in Durham County (the studious Shannon Healy), but to serve the best cocktails anywhere in the Triangle. The "Alley Dreams of Toro" is a study in fine Italian aromatized wines and the seductive collision of sweet and bitter. It's a love letter to Pizzeria Toro (which is scheduled to reopen in July! Fingers crossed!), and we're honored that Shannon has shared it with us....
Boulevard & Pacory
Saison-Cidre Shandy "Shandy Make You Dandy"
(Kansas, USA & Normandy, FR)
Farmhouse Ale & Pear Cider w/ lemonade This is a funky-fresh twist on the classic beer cocktail. We're going half and half beer and cider in our delightfully bright lemonade-infused concoction designed for the beach or back porch...
