 This Father's Day,
"It's a Man's World..."
We heard it from our dads all the time; no funny business, no goofing off, and especially no horsing around. This is why we here at Wine Authorities run our shops with firm, humorless stoicism. But in honor of macho dads the world over, we suppose we can let down our guard for a brief recognition of Father's Day. Read on for details on the manliest tasting ever, as well as a Pappy's Gift Pack deal guaranteed to please the stern patrician in your life.

Pappy Pack 2014!
Give Dad a gift that would be sure to make any dad feel like King Dad. This sturdy, classical White Burgundy and sumptuous Sonoma Cab are our magnanimously masculine (and perfectly aged) Father's Day picks, and this weekend you can pick up the pair for only $50!* See below for more details... *after a 20% discount off the sale price!
Eric de Suremain
Rully 1er Cru Blanc 2007
{biodynamic} 100% Chardonnay
(Central Burgundy, France)
HAZELNUT, SASSAFRAS, LIME & PINEAPPLE, RICH & JUICY Savvy wine buyers already know that the wines of Rully are among the best values in Burgundy. Within earshot of Meursault, the whites often very closely resemble their more famous neighbor, but at more reasonable prices. This one is among the finest we have ever seen, at perfect maturity right now! Eric de Suremain is the hardest working man in Burgundy, and he is a true artist in the cellar, crafting cellar-worthy wines of richness, elegance and passion. You shouldn't miss this. Serving Suggestion: Chicken in mushroom cream sauce. Comte or similar Emmenthal, whether melted in fondue or Raclette or on a cheese plate.
Tre Ricci
Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
(Sonoma, California)
A SPORTS COUPE OF A CAB WITH A SMOOTH, THROATY PURRrrrrr... Our first Californian direct import! Not sure how that works? Neither are we, but it's a Wine Authorities selection all the way, and what a beautiful benchmark to set. This is a knockout cabernet showing rich black fruit, creamy oak, and just a hint of bay leaves and spice. Tuned to perfection, this baby will hum all night. Note that this 2008 is drinking magnificently right now! Serving Suggestion: A Sonoma County picnic served on the hood of a 1969 Shelby Cobra. Or beef tenderloin with horseradish sauce and smashed skin-on red potatoes.

This Tuesday, June 17th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
At our next Tasty Tuesday, we're venturing into the pristine hills of northeastern Italy, home to some of the Country's most revered whites. Fragrant, minerally, and (perhaps most important for the moment) refreshing, the trio we're set to sample represents three of the most noteworthy denizens of the region's vineyards - Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Gris. Each originally from France, these grapes, today, do some of their best work in this eastern Alpine clime. Cin cin!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
It's a Man's World
This Saturday, we're toasting the dads in our lives with some indisputably manly wines from France's southwest. We'll begin in Gascony for a powerfully perfumed example of the stunning Gros Manseng grape. Next up, we have twice the man: a collaboration between father and son varietals, Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng resulting in a sturdily built, sublimely ageworthy white which we count among our very favorites of all time. Heading eastward, we find ourselves in the company of the red Mansois grape. Bold, charismatic, and better-known by the name Fer (meaning both "iron" and "untamed"), this one comes off like the archetypal star of a classic western - fearless, timeless, and of the earth. The tasting's final wine hails from the southerly reaches of Bordeaux and the exceptionally stoney vineyards of Chateau Mancèdre. This triumphant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is the perfect way to close a tasting dedicated to dads. Happy Father's Day!
Domaine Chiroulet
Gros Manseng 2012
"La Cote d'Heux"
100% Gros Manseng
(Gascony, South West France)
QUINCE & APRICOT, EXOTIC CITRUS, FLORAL BRIGHTNESS Gros Manseng is a grape which frequently hides in the depths of crisp whites from Gascony, often occupying only minute percentages of these blends. Each time we taste a deliciously vibrant and aromatic wine which showcases the grape in a larger role...
Domaine Labranche Laffont
Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec 2012
{organic} 70% Gros Manseng, 30% Petit Manseng (Madiran, South West France)
BOSC PEAR & CLEMENTINE, WISPY GARDENIA, ALMOND If you have heard of Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, you deserve a pat on the back. This rarely seen white wine from Madiran is one of France's best kept secrets. In fact, Christine Dupuy produces just a few hundred cases per year. The wine is aged on its lees and ...
Marcillac Rouge 2012 "Lo Sang del Pais"
100% Mansois (Fer Servadou) (Marcillac, South West France)
PERFUMED SPICE, HERBAL, CHALK, VERY FRENCH From a beautiful, rural region bordering Auvergne and South West comes this "most French" of wines, giving you a peek at the authenticity of the mountainous countryside. Made from Mansois (Fer Servadou), a little known grape with flavors of herbs, spice, dried berries and...
Chateau Mancèdre
Péssac-Leognan 2009
{sustainable} 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot (Bordeaux, France)
CONCENTRATED CASSIS & BLACK PLUM, ELEGANT EARTHINESS, GRAPHITE-LIKE MINERAL NOTES Chateau Mancèdre's Jean Trocard describes his estate's recent history simply: "It is the story of a rebirth." Having been destroyed by the notoriously icy conditions of Bordeaux's 1956 winter, his grandparents vineyards lay desolate for decades until Trocard and his wife, Bénédicte, stepped forward to breathe new life into them...
