Greetings!
This heat is kinda
hard to swallow...
...but rather than applying the illustrious Heimlich Maneuver (coincidentally celebrating it's 40th birthday this weekend), we've got a supply of deliciously cold wines to cool your jets and keep you breathin' easy. While it's supposed to be cool enough this weekend to have a red-focused tasting, we all know if won't last, so come see us for your txarming Txakoli and vivacious Vinho Verde needs.

THE CAUSE
The most recent agriculture census reported that NC was tied for first in the nation in loss of farmland in 2007. Loss of North Carolina farms is equally alarming with a loss of half of the farms from 100,000 farms in 1976 to 52,500 farms in 2008. Nationally, we have lost 1 million acres of farmland since 1997 and there are now more people in prisons than on farms. With the average age of farmers now 59, it is critical that we support the training and development of new farmers. Proceeds of the Farm to Fork Picnic support the new farmer training programs at CEFS and the Breeze Farm.
Adult ticket (21+) - $100 Youth ticket (13-20) - $50 Free for children 12 & under.
Proceeds benefit farmer apprentice and internship programs.

So come shop in our magnificent garden! Did we mention that we love dry rosé?

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
or "Don't Negate the Negrette"
Pretty soon, it will be too hot to dare dream up a tasting as red-centric as the one we've got in store for you this weekend, so join us as we boldly venture to the outskirts of Southwestern France's beautiful Toulouse. Fronton is a region armed with a signature grape known as Négrette which is virtually exclusive to its vineyards. Diane and Phillipe Cauvin of Chateau La Colombière are masters of this grape. In fact, you might even call them "Négrette whisperers." Join us this Saturday as we explore three different examples of this earthily floral grape in classic red followed by a lightly sweet sparkling rosé. After all, we wouldn't send you back out into the warm weekend sun without ending on a refreshing note. À Votre Santé!
Chateau La Colombière
Fronton Rouge 2011
"Vinum"
{organic} 100% Négrette
(Sud-Ouest, France)
RASPBERRY & BLACK CHERRY, ETHEREAL HERBS & SPICE Of all the specialized and unusual appellations of southwestern France, Fronton, less than half an hour north of Toulouse, is quite possibly the most unique. Its exotic Négrette grape is cultivated virtually...
Chateau La Colombière
Fronton Rouge 2011 "Réserve"
{organic} 100% Négrette (Sud-Ouest, France)
BLACKBERRY & RIPE CRANBERRY, PEPPERY MINERAL & SWEET HERBS Fronton remains one of Southwestern France's frontiers for wine lovers. Despite being situated less than half an hour from the city of Toulouse, the region keeps a low international profile. Its reds team with deep purple fruit and a wholesome spiciness which is striking...
Fronton Rouge 2009 "Coste Rouge"
{organic} 100% Négrette (Sud-Ouest, France)
EXOTIC, EARTHY & PEPPERY. BLACKBERRY & VIOLETS This is Diane & Philippe Cauvin's pure Negrette grape cuvee from a single parcel of vineyard with iron rich soils of pebbles, gravel and sand. The distinctive soil gives the wine a softer but more intense...
Chateau la Colombière
Rosé Methode Ancestrale 2011 "Colombulle"
{organic} 100% Négrette (Sud-Ouest, France)
RASPBERRY & WHITE PLUM, BREEZY SPARKLE, A TOUCH OF GRAPEFRUIT Philipe and Diane Cauvin have essentially bridled the finicky Négrette grape into graceful submission with their catalogue of wines that seem to improve with each passing vintage. This is their newest offering, a delectably refreshing...
