Rosé Garden Party!
(In Durham & Raleigh)
May 17th. Noon to 3:00PM
An Extravaganza
Celebrating and Sampling Rosé!
Our first ever Rosé Garden Party will be held in both our Durham and Raleigh stores on May 17th from noon to 3pm.
Discover the perfection of pairing rosés with NC oysters (steamed or raw) and fried fish from Walking Fish prepared by chefs Billy Cotter of Toast (and the soon-to-open Dashi) for Durham store and Andrew Shepherd of Stanbury (and Wine Authorities!) for Raleigh. Local farmstead cheese plates (from Chapel Hill Creamery in Durham and Prodigal Farm in Raleigh) will also be available for $9 each.
Be sure to don a Garden Party outfit! Party attendees donning fancy hats, bow ties, or parasols will receive a 10% discount on wine purchases (and an extra 5% bump-up on purchases of cases and half-cases)! A best-costume winner will be selected in both Durham and Raleigh and will receive a whopping $100 Enomatic card (thus ensuring coolest-kid status). Feel free to surprise us with the outlandish rosé-themed outfits of your wildest imaginations!

PS: We need oyster shuckers at both locations. Call or reply to this email to help us out!

Prodigal Goats
Ends Tuesday, May 20th!
Our friends at the local, humane, pasture-based farm are building a cheese aging space in order to become even more sustainable:
"We raise goats the hardest way: humanely, always on pasture, mirroring the lives they'd live in nature, but with better care and better protection from predators. No other commercial-scale goat dairy in North Carolina bears the Animal Welfare Approved certification, and very few do nationwide. We make beautiful cheeses which in three years have found a market from New York's Hudson River Valley to New Orleans. In those three years, we've discovered some bottlenecks and business challenges."

Vine to Wine
At Wine Authorities Raleigh
Our in-depth introductory class returns!
7:33 pm. Thursday, May 29th
Join us at our new Raleigh store for a fun and educational evening of wine which chronicles a vine's bud break in the spring to each of its grape's being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we hold so dear.  We cover how vines are grown and how wine is made as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we'll debunk many wine myths throughout this concise but thorough two hour class.
(includes tasting, video presentation, and handouts)

Tasty Tuesday!
Godello
Zinfandel
Lambrusco
This Tuesday, May 20th, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!

5:00 - 7:00 pm
GODZILLA
For absolutely no reason, we're tasting examples of wine made from the glorious Godello, Zinfandel, and Lambrusco grapes at this week's Tasty Tuesday in a dual-continental adventure. While the grapes in question may have very few specific commonalities, each is known for its unmistakably distinctive personality and iconic flavor profile. We'll begin in "Green Spain" for a sighting of the formerly illusive Godello variety before crossing ocean and land to Cali's Sonoma for an imposingly dark-fruited and impeccably balanced but fiercely representative Zinfandel. We'll end where northern and central Italy meet, in Emilia Romagna for beautifully deep and dark yet enormously fun Lambrusco - complete with just a hint of sweetness. Join us for a titanic tasting!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Rosé Garden 2014
Oh, la belle jardin!
Just in time for our first ever Garden Party extravaganza, the famous Rosé Garden has sprouted in all it's pink, juicy glory. In fact, we have two gardens for the first time this year and a whole new cadre of gardeners to tend our Raleigh Rosé. Old favorites have returned along with the requisite new arrivals, and (as always) we will donate a portion of our rosé sales throughout the year to breast cancer research. So come shop in our magnificent garden! Did we mention that we love dry rosé?

Mas Codina Cava Rosado
Mas Codina

Cava Brut Rosado

100% Pinot Noir
(Penedès, Spain)
CHERRY & BRIGHT RED PLUM, DELICATE TEXTURE,
LOVELY ACIDITY!

This delicate and generous rosé from our friends at Mas Codina is bright, juicy, and finely textured, exuding sophistication and balance through every fun, refreshing bubble. As is the case in many of the best rosé bubblies, here red fruit is nuance rather than star, allowing minerality and floral notes a voice in this highly memorable and complex sparkler....

Hérault Rosé 2013
"Le Fruit Défendu"

{sustainable} 100% Cinsault

(Languedoc, France)

RICH CHERRY & MILDLY SPICY CURRANT. CRISP MINERALITY
Cinsault is technically not allowed at this percentage in the Languedoc, hence this wine's name: "Le Fruits Defendu" (The Forbidden Fruit). Winegrower Bruno Lafon, a transplant himself originally from Comte de Lafon in Meursault, has brought his...

(Carnuntum, Austria)

FRESH & CHEERFUL, TANGY RED BERRIES, JUICY RIPENESS
Carnuntum's Franz Netzl is a dedicated specialist in the region's most important grape, Zweigelt, and takes great pride in the excellent quality of which his vineyards are capable. This pink representation is named for his daughter, Anna...

PALE, FRESH, QUAFFABLE. PERFUMY SANDALWOOD & CITRUS
Served cold, this goes down easily (and very quickly) just as it would in the land where it's made. Picture this: you, your love, and your closest friends around a small table with a saffron-colored table cloth. It's dusk. Cool breezes relieve...

Ribera del Duero Rosado 2013
"Rosa de Arrocal"

100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo)

(Castilla y Leon, Spain)
BOLD CHERRY & RASPBERRY, MINERAL PINPRICKS, JUICY & BRIGHT
Hailing from northern Castilla y Leon's arid Ribera del Duero region, home to some of the nation's most balanced and structured Tempranillo-based reds, this juicy rosé has a lot of the beloved characteristics of its darker brethren. Trading in the ample tannin and impressive longevity for youthful exuberance and intensely berryish-bright tangy red fruit, this wine's appeal is...

"Rosé of Sangiovese" 2013

100% Sangiovese

(Columbia Valley, Washington)

JUICY CHERRY & STRAWBERRY FRUIT, ROUND TEXTURE
Super pink, borderline light red in color, this Washington State rosé wine is rich and deeply extracted in style. Like a squirt of cherry and strawberry fruit pie on the palate, this rosé is a full-bodied pink for a meal. Showing watermelon, cherry and orange peel on...
