Tasty Tuesday: A Pairing for... Pollen?
Saturday Tasting: Easterrific Ham 'n Lamb

Greetings! top
A-pollen-ocalypse!
We all recognize this guy. He shows up every year around this time with billions of his friends to throw a party in our sinuses and gather in dense, pet-obscuring drifts. It's the annual en-pollen-ing, and it's pretty gross.
But take it as a good omen, because it means that, despite a few strangely cold days here and there, spring has definitely arrived! Our next Tasty Tuesday, in fact, features supremely floral wines, so brave the yellow fog and come join us! Just keep your glass covered...
We're also pouring wines on Saturday which take a cue from the quintessentially springy cuisine of a traditional Easter meal - specifically Ham 'n Lamb. But if Chicken is more your thing, well, we've got Chicken-friendly wines that are fit for a king. In fact, you might have to eat every chicken in the room...

Al Fresco
with Scratch!
Sipping great wines in the warm glow of the setting sun overlooking the Duke Gardens while an amazingly talented chef prepares a spread of mind-blowing food is a seasonal highlight of the springiest kind. Let's do it again! This time, we're teaming up with Phoebe Lawless of Scratch for our second al fresco picnic in the astounding Discovery Garden. The menu will be a four-course Mediterranean- styled meal served family style, with wines picked and poured by your friendly neighborhood Wine Authorities. Make a reservation today! Details below!

The Food: Prepared by the renowned Phoebe Lawless and her staff from Scratch Bakery and Caf. Phoebe has been written about by the NY Times, Bon Appetit, Southern Living and Food & Wine, among others. She was also a finalist for the 2013 James Beard Best Baker award and referred to as a "wizard" by the Indy.

The Wine: Wine Authorities showcases the estate wines from wineries that grow all of the grapes that go into the wine. Simply put, estate wine producers are as much farmers as they are winemakers. A trip to Wine Authorities always means learning something new about the wines you enjoy.

The Setting: Sarah P. Duke Gardens, voted one of the top ten public gardens in the United States by TripAdvisor and awarded the 2013 Horticulture MagazineAward for Garden Excellence

Tasty Tuesday!
  If you can't beat 'em...
This Tuesday, April 22nd, we present our FREE
midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!

5:00 - 7:00 pm

"Fragrantly Floral!"
or
"A Pairing for... Pollen?"
Spring is in the air! And all over our cars. And in our eyes, ears, mouths, and noses. That's okay because it means that our strange, meandering winter is finally (probably?) over! At this week's Tasty Tuesday, we're buying into the old adage that "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and throwing a welcome back party for the insurmountable yellow dunes which have recently become a fixture of our Carolinian topography. We've selected three supremely floral wines - an Argentine Torrontes with a magnolia-grade intensity and bright citrus, a voluptuous Alsatian Gewurztraminer with just a kiss of sweetness, and a berryishly violet Spanish Garnacha that smells like a bouquet of...well...violets!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Ham 'n Lamb
Join us this Saturday as our tasting takes its cue from the trappings of traditional Easter feasts. Keep in mind, of course, that the wines we've selected have a much broader skill set than simply being served with ham and/or lamb, but they certainly do excel at it! We'll begin with a ros as crisp, juicy, and versatile as they come. After all, despite what you might have been told, ham is not a "white meat." It's pink. It's only natural that we should drink some pink wine with it. Our second offering is a dry, tangy, youthful Riesling from Austria's lauded Wachau - a champion of a companion for every manner of savory red meat. A glorious Pinot Noir from California's Santa Lucia Highlands provides us with the afternoon's first red, and then we'll venture back to the Old World for a Grenache-based blend (or as our lamb-lovin' Aussie friends might say, a "GSM") that's lip-smackingly juicy enough for ham but with the sort of lamb-friendly Mediterranean spice and earth at which the Rhone Valley excels. Cheers!
