To The Indispensable Man
The winter of 1778 was brutally harsh, and the brave troops of the American Revolution stationed at Valley Forge shivered and starved without food, shelter, or (one can assume) ready supplies of wine. The misery ended upon receipt of a care package from the French (appropriately), but history records that it was the bravery, spirit, and wherewithal of one General George Washington that saw the soldiers through the frozen darkness and eventually to the dawning of this thing we call America, baby. Aww yeah...

This Tuesday, February 25th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!

Between Snowmageddon and the constant polar vortices, we've basically been living on Hoth for the last two months. Sure, the weather is supposed to get super warm this weekend, but come Tuesday it will be up to its sleety old tricks again. We're sick of winter and ready for spring, so we're pouring some of the most spring-appropriate wines in the shop as an act of defiance. Come dream of warmer times with a beautifully floral Verdejo and a bright, tangy rosé. Of course, it wouldn't be the end of February without a big spicy red, so we'll have one of those too. It's better than seeking refuge inside a dead Tauntaun.

And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

The Birthplace of Malbec
Featuring Emmanuel Rybinski!

This Saturday at our free tasting, we welcome a truly dedicated and forward-thinking ambassador of Southwestern France's Cahors to our shop. Emmanuel Rybinski of Clos Troteligotte is returning to pour four of his wines, beginning with a very vibrant and adventurous white.  Next, a pair of his famously structured, mineral-rich Malbec cuvées (the "Knom" and the "Kor" - grown organically and vinified without oak aging) will be showcased. A very special fourth offering (which will be purchasable by special order only), the imposing "K2," is an amphora-aged sentinel of a Malbec!

Clos Troteligotte
"CSV" 2012 {organic} Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier
(Cahors, Southwestern France)

BRIGHT & TROPICAL, TOUCH OF TOAST, REFRESHING & SUMPTUOUS Emmanuel Rybinski is veritable maestro of Malbec. With this cuvée, however, he turns his sights toward a trio of France's most distinguished white grapes, each finding itself a long way from home in Rybinski's Sud-Ouestern vineyards...

Clos Troteligotte

Cahors 2011 "Knom"
{organic} 85% Malbec, 15% Merlot   (Cahors, Southwestern France) PLUM, BLACKBERRY, LIGHT SMOKE, MINERAL, ELEGANT TANNINS Emmanuel Rybinski turns out some fantastic Malbec-based wines. Taking over the family estate and farming organicly, he coaxes beautiful fruit flavors from their younger vines for this cuvée. No oak to be found, the wines are pure plum, black currant, blackberry and finish with a kiss of mineral....

Clos Troteligotte

Cahors 2011 "Kor"
{organic} 100% Malbec (Cahors, Southwestern France)
PEPPER, BLACKBERRY, ANISEED, & A TOUCH OF COCOA Emmanuel Rybinski knows that great wine is made on the vine, and he devotes most of his time to carefully farming his small vineyard (which of course makes us at Wine Authorities get all swoony). Debudding and judicious pruning means that his...

Washington for Washington!

In Raleigh this weekend, we take a cue from "The Indispensable Man" himself, George Washington as we dispense some samples of indispensable Washington State wines.  A juicy Sangiovese rosé serves as the opening act for some of the state's best-loved specialties, Riesling, Merlot, and Syrah. With wines like these on display, missing our tasting would be insensible (and borderline indefensible).

"Rosé of Sangiovese" 2012
100% Sangiovese
(Columbia Valley, Washington State)

JUICY CHERRY & STRAWBERRY FRUIT, ROUND TEXTURE Super pink, borderline light red in color, this Washington State rosé wine is rich and deeply extracted in style. Like a squirt of cherry and strawberry fruit pie on the palate, this rosé is a full-bodied pink for a meal. Showing watermelon, cherry and...
