Winter is Half Over!
We hesitated to trust our calendars, but the most marmotous of Pennsylvanians has recently confirmed that there are indeed only six weeks of winter remaining. Happy February everyone! We hope you've stayed warm and dry so far during this most delightfully dismal of months. And to our loyal customers in Cordova, Alaska, we hope this year's Ice Worm Festival went off without a hitch. Happy Ice Worm Day to all! We here in Durham don't have an Ice Worm Festival to keep our spirits up during these darkest days of winter, but fortunately Wine Authorities has all sorts of fun in store while we wait for the sun to come back out. We'll sweep you off your feet with some romance-minded wines that are GUARANTEED* to get you some action come Valentine's Day, and be sure to reserve your spot for the Wine & Chocolate class at our Raleigh shop. And watch this space as we roll out a delicious new display. Hint: will you brie our valentine? *NOT A GUARANTEE

Our first Raleigh Class!
The night before Valentine's Day
Bubbles are terribly misunderstood... until now. Don't know your Cava from your Sekt? Just what is the difference between Spumante and Frizzante? Why must Champagne always be so French? Well, this class will take you through the world of sparkling wines (and feature bubbly from around the world).
We'll dispel myths, defy logic and drink fizzy drinks. The evening will end with dessert sparklers and exceptional chocolate. If you've been afraid of effervescence, fear no more! We'll show you the good stuff that won't cost you a monk and a leg.
Class starts at 7:33pm Thursday, Feb 13th 211 East Franklin Street Raleigh, NC
$48 per Person

This Tuesday, February 11th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
Milkshakes are alright if you're a teenager from 1956, and tequila shots will always have a place in the halls of courtship, but for serious romancin' the only true beverage is wine. Wine has that heady spirit, that dizzying opulence that unlocks the doors to our most sensual realms and makes it easier to straight lay that mack on. Ain't gonna lay that mack on with Bud Light Lime, if you catch our drift. Of course, some wines are more romantic than others, and we are happy to introduce you to a few. So come join us on Tuesday as we pour some sexy wines for these sexy times. Don't be shy, we're a cheap date.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

A Series of
Serious Syrahs...
Northern Rhone native and international man about town, Syrah has earned itself legions of admirers for all that it is and all that it can represent. From the earthy mystique that it exudes on its home turf to the bouncing swagger and massive ripeness that it takes on when vacationing in the hotter climes of Southeastern Australia, Syrah is seriously distinctive and yet a champion of diversity. Join us this Saturday as we taste some shining examples of the varietal from its various capitals around the world!
Hyatt Vineyards
Syrah 2010 100% Syrah
(Colombia Valley, Washington)
CHOCOLATE, SPICE, SMOKE & BLACKBERRY Here's a small, domestic winery that's doing it right. Great wines at astoundingly good prices. This Syrah is a perfect example of Washington state's affinity for this grape, or is it vice versa? Bridging the...
Domaine Le Garrigon
Visan CDR Villages 2011
{organic} 90% Syrah, 10% Grenache (Southern Rhone, France) BLACK RASPBERRY & DATE, LEATHER, TOUCH OF THYME Hailing from the southerly reaches of the Rhone's Drôme department, this vibrant cuvée showcases Syrah from gorgeous old vines. Powerfully pretty (prettily powerful?) and featuring the combination of berryish fruit and spicy Mediterranean romance for which the wines of the Rhone are famous...
Laurent Combier
Crozes-Hermitage 2012
{organic} 100% Syrah (Northern Rhone, France)
INKY BOYSENBERRY, EARTHY SMOKE, VIOLETS & VANILLA. GORGEOUS! Laurent Combier, a second generation vigneron, passionately continues the work begun by his father, Maurice, an organic pioneer who established the estate in the early sixties. What began life largely as pear and apricot orchards with a smattering of vines now includes fifty acres of dynamic vineyard. This is the estate's most classical, distinctive...
Pyren Vineyard
Shiraz 2011 "Broken Quartz" 100% Syrah (Victoria, Australia)
SUBTLE COCOA & PLUM, MINT & EUCALYPTUS, ELEGANT ACIDITY Pyren Vineyards impressed us with their Cabernet Sauvignon, and continues to confound the skeptics with this lovely Shiraz. Menthol and cocoa aromas swirl around the glass like a savory take on mint chocolate chip. As the wine breathes the flavors...
