Very soon, in the Land of Raleigh...
Take your gowns and tuxedos to the dry cleaners - or at least hunt for your best jean shorts and relatively intact flip-flops - because there is almost a new Wine Authorities in this land, and we could not be more proud or excited. It's been months in the making, but the racks are soon to be full, the Enomatic is preparing to flow, and the staff is ready to help you pick out some perfect estate wines. We're not quite ready to throw open the doors, but the opening of Wine Authorities Raleigh at 211 E Franklin St. is imminent, and when it happens, we want you to come party with us. Check our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates on the exact moment that we'll be opening our doors to the public (it may very well be this weekend at some point), and get ready!
Brand New for the Raleigh Location:
**24 wines on tap with our space age Enomatic wine dispensing machines!**
**Expanded deli case with cheese and charcuterie plates**
**3-6 beers and 3 wines on tap at the tasting bar**
**16ft wide bifold front window opens up on lovely days**
**Boules (petanque) out back**
**Cafe seating out front**
**3x more beer**
**Giant projector screen for classes and events**
**Open later hours Friday and Saturday**
**Fresh baked bread from Yellow Dog Baking**
Meanwhile in Durham, the original store will remain unchanged (except for continuously and unfailingly getting even more awesome, of course!) and occupied by the same amazing staff that you've come to know and trust.
~~~~Sustain-a-Bull!This year's post-Thanksgiving sale continues through Sunday
Every year, following Thanksgiving, Sustain-a-Bull celebrates Durham's many great independent businesses with "Shop Independent Durham Week." Our annual contribution to this celebration of Durham's wealth of excellent and innovative local businesses is a 20% off sale of all Wine Authorities Selections (The 100+ wines that we've brought directly to the Triangle) which lasts throughout the week! It's hard to put into words just how thankful we are for our topnotch customers and the great city of Durham. This sale is just a small token of our gratitude and love! Have a look at the organization's website for more information on the stores involved and related sales! Here's to another great year in the Bull City!
Just Look for the logo:
The time has come again to embrace wine's eternal symbol of youth and renewal. Every year on the third Thursday of November, the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau heralds the completion of (virtually all) grape harvests throughout Europe. In fact, it tends to be the first commercially available wine of the year from anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere! This year, we're especially excited about the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau because we've gotten our hands on not one, not two, but three different offerings including a very limited rosé (now almost sold out) which is brand new to the store.
- Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau "Pierre Chermette" 2013 $14.99
- Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé 2013 $14.99
- Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau "Vieilles Vignes" 2013 $15.99
Great for Gatherings:
Boxes of Wine!
We currently have plenty of boxed wines to place beneath any decorated trees that might suddenly show up in your homes. Old favorites like Domaine Le Garrigon's famous Vin de Méditerranée, Domaine Pinchinat's Venus Rouge, and Eric Texier's fabulous "Chat Fou" are unarguably all up in the house, but we're most excited about the new additions to our 3 liter menagerie. Daniel Couston of Domaine Le Garrigon has finally acquiesced and sent us BiBs (short for "Bag in Box") of his Cotes du Rhone. And in a crazy bolt-from-the-blue Box event, Carussin has sent us their delicious Barbera d'Asti in a very nice-looking box. Look for the box with the donkey on it, or as we are calling it, the Boxdonkeydonk. Just back in in stock is southern Portugal's energetically tropical white, "Alandra"!
THE BOXES OF NOW:
- Heredade do Esporão - Branco "Alandra" NV $24.99
- Domaine Le Garrigon - Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2012 $34.99 [3L]
- Domaine Le Garrigon - Vin de Méditerranée 2011 $29.99 [3L]
- Carussin - Barbera d'Asti "Asinoi" 2012 $34.99 [3L]
- Domaine Pinchinat - Venus de Pinchinat Rouge 2012 $29.99 [3L]
- Eric Texier - Cotes du Rhone Rouge "Chat Fou" 2011 $94.99 [5L!]
This Tuesday, December 10th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
A well-heeled Tasty Tuesday
It's a bit of a cliche, but we'll be danged if Italy doesn't look like a boot! It's as if a coalition of tectonic plates and geologic forces got together millions of years ago and decided, "you know guys, we should really put a boot here." And like any good boot, Italy has a sexy stiletto heel called Puglia. A land of rugged beauty and very old-school attitudes, Puglia is off the tourist track despite having some of the best sun, surf, and seafood in the whole country, not to mention excellent red wines of serious depth and complexity. This Tuesday, kick up your heels with with three wines from the heel - a spicy Primitivo, a rich Aglianico, and a deep, inky, Negro Amaro-driven blend from Salice Salentino. Be there, lest we call you a heel.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!
This Saturday, in Durham, from 12 to 3 PM
"try before you buy" at
our FREE tasting:
At this week's Saturday tasting, we're featuring five Wine Authorities Selections! Not only are these wines 20% off for the remainder of the Sustain-a-Bull sale (ending on Sunday, the eighth), but in what better way could we celebrate the opening of our new store in Raleigh than by sampling a few of the signature offerings which were unavailable in this part of the country prior to our having them brought in? A dry Alsatian Riesling, an adventurous Valencian white, a Rioja-esque Tempranillo/Cab from Navarra, a powerfully modernist Douro, and a Chateauneuf of legendary proportions (not to mention tremendous value) are the afternoon's stars!
Cave Freudenreich
ZESTY LEMON & TART APPLE. A VIBRANT, CRISP MINERAL SPRING A wine whose personality is as chiseled and immediately recognizable as the rooftops of traditional Alsatian architecture, this Riesling is a textbook example of the grape in all of its shimmering and prickly glory...
Douro Tinto 2010 "Andreza" 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz (Douro, Portugal)
FIRM PLUM & DRIED MISSION FIG, WISPS OF CEDAR & VANILLA Representing a somewhat more modernist slant on the classically dark and elegantly rugged unfortified reds of the Douro valley, Lua Cheia's "Andreza" is named for a particularly stunning bend among the region's otherworldly (and very steep) vineyard-scape...
Chateauneuf du Pape 2010 95% Grenache, 3% Mourvedre, 2% Syrah (Southern Rhone, France)
MISSION FIG & BLACKBERRY, CHOCOLATE, TURKISH DELIGHTS The shell of an imposing castle overlooking sunbleached cobblestone streets and winding alleyways provides a mysterious focal point to the Southern Rhone's oldest and most famous appellation. Chateauneuf du Pape requires relatively little introduction. Domaine des Pères de L'Eglise is a producer which with a rich history of two centuries and (and four generations...
