Happy Thanksgivukkah!
Menurkey
For the first time in several lifetimes, Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah occur on the same day. We've done our research and been able to confirm that this won't happen again for 77,798 years! Happy Thanksgivukkah, everybody!
One thing that you shouldn't have to wait 77,798 years for is the annual Sustain-a-Bull Sale, which kicks off on Saturday with a tasting of superb holiday wines.  All Wine Authorities Selections (The 100+ wines that we've brought directly to the Triangle) will be 20% off throughout the week! It's hard to put into words just how thankful we are for our topnotch customers and the great city of Durham, This sale is just a small token of our gratitude and love!
Every year, following Thanksgiving, Sustain-a-Bull celebrates Durham's many great independent businesses with "Shop Independent Durham Week."  Have a look at the organization's website for more information on the stores involved and related sales! Here's to another great year in the Bull City (as well as Wine Authorities' very first year down the road in The Capitol)!

Nouveau NV
Est Arrivé
The time has come again to embrace wine's eternal symbol of youth and renewal.  Every year on the third Thursday of November, the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau heralds the completion of (virtually all) grape harvests throughout Europe.  In fact, it tends to be the first commercially available wine of the year from anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere!
This year, we're especially excited  about the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau because we've gotten our hands on not one, not two, but three different offerings including a very limited rosé (now almost sold out) which is brand new to the store.

The Nouveau selections:

  • Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau "Pierre Chermette" 2013  $14.99
  • Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé 2013  $14.99
  • Domaine Vissoux - Beaujolais Nouveau "Vieilles Vignes" 2013  $15.99

Totes Totes!

Check out our new totes! {totes} Awesome, right? And they are only $2.99, which is, like, {totes} a good deal. They {totes} have our logo and stuff, and our slogan, "Wines from farmers, not factories," is on the back so you can {totes} show your support for, like, estate wines! Yay!

Turkey Day
is Here!

(With our Thanksgiving Display)

The writing is on the wall (along with a bit of the stuffing).  Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and it provides us with not only some of our favorite encounters with family and friends but also opportunities for adventurous wine pairings with zany foods that the founders of this country somehow decided should be served together in order to celebrate the extent to which people weren't going hungry!  This year's Turkey Day treasure trove currently includes:
  • Cave Freudenreich - "Edelzwicker" [1L!] 2012  $14.99
  • Cave Freudenreich - Cremant d'Alsace  $19.99
  • Domaine Gandines - Viré-Clessé 2011  $24.99
  • Domaine Gouron - Chinon Rosé 2012  $15.99

Also Great for Gatherings:

Boxes of Wine!

We currently have in stock enough boxed wines to fill the mayflower!  Old favorites like Domaine Le Garrigon's famous Vin de Méditerranée,  Domaine Pinchinat's Venus Rouge, and Eric Texier's fabulous "Chat Fou" are unarguably all up in the house, but we're most excited about the new additions to our 3 liter menagerie.  Daniel Couston of Domaine Le Garrigon has finally acquiesced and sent us BiBs (short for "Bag in Box") of his Cotes du Rhone. And in a crazy bolt-from-the-blue Box event, Carussin has sent us their delicious Barbera d'Asti in a very nice-looking box. Look for the box with the donkey on it, or as we are calling it, the Boxdonkeydonk.  Just in time for Thanksgiving, southern Portugal's energetically tropical white "Alandra" has also returned!

THE BOXES OF NOW:
  • Heredade do Esporão - Branco "Alandra" NV  $24.99
  • Domaine Le Garrigon - Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2012  $34.99 [3L]
  • Domaine Le Garrigon - Vin de Méditerranée 2011  $29.99 [3L
  • Carussin - Barbera d'Asti "Asinoi" 2012  $34.99 [3L]
  • Domaine Pinchinat - Venus de Pinchinat Rouge 2012  $29.99 [3L]
  • Eric Texier - Cotes du Rhone Rouge "Chat Fou"  2011 $94.99 [5L!]

And behold our glorious box discounts!

Tasty Tuesday!
Holiday Party Wines
This Tuesday, December 3rd, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!
  5:00 - 7:00 pm

KEEP CALM AND PARTY ON
Here's our advice this holiday season: throw a party. When your friends ask, "what can I bring?" simply reply that they can grab something from Wine Authorities. Voila! Your cellar will be full through January.
Of course, it works both ways. If you find yourself with a busy holiday social schedule, do your wallet a favor by picking up a few of our specially selected party wines. We've partied extremely hard, under rigorous and exhausting conditions, to bring you three wines that maximize tasty fun while minimizing cost. On Tuesday, come taste a luscious Portuguese white, an easy-drinking Tempranillo from Spain's Navarra region, and for the true dedicated partier, a 3 liter box of the perennial favorite, Provence's "Venus Rouge." All under $10 per bottle, so the wine can flow like...well...wine.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM

"A Jump on the Holidays"
This week, we're taking holiday planning by the reigns and showcasing four tremendous gift ideas and/or celebratory indulgences at our Saturday tasting.   We'll begin with our newest arrival from Champagne - a bright and super-lively sparkler from bubbly's true capital which is truly affordable. Next, we'll go west (life is peaceful there, after all) for a Russian River Chardonnay which brings all the boldness for which Cali Chards have become famous with a balance that few can scarcely imagine.  Our two reds hail from Italy's Piemonte and France's Middle Loire, featuring the rich and regal Nebbiolo and Cabernet Franc grapes.  Not one of these selections has ever before been featured at one of our tastings, so join us and get geared up for the most festive stretch of the year!
