Boxing Day
No need to wait until December 26th, 'cuz Boxing Day is HERE!  We were surveying our shelves, contemplating the beauty of Bag-in-Box wines, when all of a sudden, what can only be described as a boxcar's worth of boxes appeared before our very eyes! It was like the Great Wall of China - only each brick was actually a box filled with DuPont-tested, NASA-approved mylar satchels of wine. We were boxed in! By boxes!

It might not have gone down quite as described, but we have a bunch of boxed wines in stock. This is the point that we're trying to make...
Old favorites like Domaine Le Garrigon's famous Vin de Mditerrane,  Domaine Pinchinat's Venus Rouge, and Eric Texier's fabulous "Chat Fou" are unarguably all up in the house, but we're most excited about the new additions to our 3 liter menagerie.  Daniel Couston of Domaine Le Garrigon has finally acquiesced and sent us BiBs (short for "Bag in Box") of his Cotes du Rhone. And in a crazy bolt-from-the-blue Box event, Carussin has sent us their delicious Barbera d'Asti in a very nice-looking box. Look for the box with the donkey on it, or as we are calling it, the Boxdonkeydonk.

THE BOXES OF NOW:
  • Domaine Le Garrigon - Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2012  $34.99 [3L]
  • Domaine Le Garrigon - Vin de Mditerrane 2011  $29.99 [3L
  • Carussin - Barbera d'Asti "Asinoi" 2012  $34.99 [3L]
  • Domaine Pinchinat - Venus de Pinchinat Rouge 2012  $29.99 [3L]
  • Eric Texier - Cotes du Rhone Rouge "Chat Fou"  2011 $94.99 [5L!

Turkey Day
is on its way!

(With our Thanksgiving Display)

The writing is on the wall (along with a bit of the stuffing).  Thanksgiving is just around the bend, and it provides us with not only some of our favorite encounters with family and friends but also opportunities for adventurous wine pairings with zany foods that the founders of this country somehow decided should be served together in order to celebrate the extent to which people weren't going hungry!  This year's Turkey Day treasure trove currently includes:
  • Cave Freudenreich - "Edelzwicker" [1L!] 2012  $14.99
  • Cave Freudenreich - Cremant d'Alsace  $19.99
  • Domaine Gandines - Vir-Cless 2011  $24.99
  • Domaine Gouron - Chinon Ros 2012  $15.99
  • Steininger - Grner Veltliner Sekt 2010  $29.99
  • Michlits - Pinot Gris "Graupert" 2011  $17.99
  • Michlits - "Burgenland Red" 2011  $13.99
  • Hacienda Villarta - Mentrida Crianza "Besanas" 2009  $11.99
  • Paraiso - Pinot Noir 2010  $19.99

Tasty Tuesday!
"Kickin' it Eastside"
This Tuesday, November 12th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty!
  5:00 - 7:00 pm
Many beloved beverages have their origins on the East Coast of the United States: Moonshine, Cheerwine, Dr. Brown's (indescribably awful) "Cel-Ray" Celery-Flavored Soda, just to name a few.  But recently we've seen a renaissance in Eastern adult beverages which can proudly run with the best in the world while resolutely refusing to cause blindness, rotten teeth, or projectile vomiting... and no, we're definitely not referencing the Midwest's Four Loko (which can, in fact, cause all three).
This Tuesday, we're celebrating the wonderful winemakers and brewers that choose to make their home right here in Eastern Standard Time. Join us on Tuesday as we taste a beautiful Riesling from the Finger Lakes of New York, a rustically comely Nebbiolo from NC's own Grove Winery, and a delicious bourbon barrel stout from Durham's own Fullsteam brewery. Kick it east side, yo!
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Mas de Libian: Ardently Ardche
(A Wine Authorities Selection)
This week, we venture to the home of a producer which is equally iconoclastic and respectful of history.  Mas de Libian is one of our absolute favorites - a family of impassioned Rhone vignerons whose sense of agricultural responsibility is matched by its quest for quality.  The Thibon family has farmed its vineyards for three and a half centuries and was brought into the modern age by husband and wife Jean- Pierre and Jacqueline.  Today, two of their daughters, Hlne (pictured below) and Catherine (pictured above with Nestor the Horse), have taken the reigns and continued the passion and philosophy of their parents' keenly naturalistic approach.  Join us this Saturday as we celebrate the newest vintages of four of their awe-inspiring works.  Mais oui!
