In This Issue:

- Saturday's Tasting: Cascina Barisel
Greetings! top
Special Guest this Saturday:
Franco Penna of Cascina Barisel
We have many international friends visiting this week, so why not break out the air mattress and clean guest towels for one more. Ladies and gentleman, please give your warmest Saturday welcome to the globetrotting Piemontese producer Franco Penna.  Franco runs Cascina Barisel, an off-the-beaten-path vineyard and winery responsible for some of the freshest and brightest wines Italy's Piedmont has to offer.
He's a man of nature, eschewing chemical fertilizers and insecticides for a hands-in-the-dirt approach. You can even see the roots of his vines poking through the ceiling of his subterranean cellar, wending their way down to the natural spring that sits under the property. Sounds nice! Maybe he'll bring pictures...

Tomorrow Night!
The Wines of Leo Hillinger
Höffken

Tasting & mini-class w/ special guest

Michael Höffken

Friday, October 18th @ 7:33 pm

If you've spent much time wandering our aisles, you've probably noticed that we're ardent admirers of both Austria's traditional specialties and its bold spirit of adventure.  Leo Hillinger's offerings from the country's Burgenland serve as a perfect example of this balance.  The estate's Michael Höffken, assistant winemaker and traveling guru of all things Hillinger, will be joining us to share his first-hand knowledge of Burgenland's wines.
The event features five wines, catered hors d'oeuvres, and an opportunity to purchase the wines of Hillinger at a bonus discount.  Prost!

Wine Class!

Vine to Wine

On October 24th, we present our in-depth introductory wine class.

7:33 pm

Join us for a fun and educational evening of wine which chronicles a vine's bud break in the spring to each of its grape's being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we hold so dear.  We cover how vines are grown and wine is made as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we'll debunk many wine myths throughout this two hour class.
(includes tasting wines, video presentation, and handouts)

Thursday, October 24th at 7:33 pm
$36 per person

Tasty Tuesday!
Heart of Spain: Castilla y Leon

This Tuesday, October 22nd, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
Wine lovers are often a romantic bunch, and few areas of this world stir our souls like Castilla y Leon. The region is, of course, where many of us spent a college semester alongside our feisty Spanish lover Maria, camping out and blowing up bridges before...um...falling off a horse and getting shot by fascists. Still, we remember the time fondly.
But Castilla y Leon is more than just doomed romance and guerrilla warfare. It's Spain's most climatically and geographically diverse region, owing to the fact that it is freaking enormous.  For this week's tasty Tuesday, we will explore this giant hunk of Spain with three wines: a crisp Verdejo from arid Rueda, a ripe and richly mature Crianza from the furnace-hot Mentrida region of Toledo, and an earthy Mencia from cooler, greener Bierzo.  Come join us! Papa would approve.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Autumn in the Piemonte part 2:
Cascina Barisel
of the Canelli Hills
Last Saturday, we took a broad look at (and taste of) a few of the many specialties to be found in Italy's Piemonte.  Join us again this week as we hone in on the Canelli hills which straddle Langhe and Monferrato.  Serving as our ambassador for this region, Franco Penna of Cascina Barisel will be on hand to pour samples of his lovingly (and very naturally) produced Favorita, Dolcetto, and Barbera.  These are locally imported, and two are entirely new to our shop.  Come and discover these brand new arrivals!
