Greetings! top

  Save the Date(s)!
The holiday crunch is still weeks away, but we ain't slackin' here at Wine Authorities. Got to keep in shape! For us, this means extra reps of palate pushups,
aroma- detecting "nose yoga" exercises, and basic strength training like tossing full cases back and forth across the store to the dulcet tones of "Eye of the Tiger".  For you, this means extra chances to meet some of our international friends and participate in educational opportunities.  In addition to our regularly scheduled FREE Tusday and Saturday tastings, we have some very exciting events lined up for the immediate future!
Our main focus at Wine Authorities, as you may have noticed, is good wine.  However, a little knowledge goes a long way in adding depth and variety to your wine-drinking pleasure, and learning about wine is fun! Happy October!

Wine Class!

Vine to Wine

On October 24th, we present our in-depth introductory wine class.

7:33 pm

Join us for a fun and educational evening of wine which chronicles a vine's bud break in the spring to each of its grape's being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we hold so dear.  We cover how vines are grown and wine is made as well as how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we'll debunk many wine myths throughout this two hour class.
(includes tasting wines, video presentation, and handouts)

Thursday, October 24th at 7:33 pm

Tasting & mini-class w/ special guest

Michael Höffken

Friday, October 18th @ 7:33 pm

If you've spent much time wandering our aisles, you've probably noticed that we're ardent admirers of both Austria's traditional specialties and its bold spirit of adventure.  Leo Hillinger's offerings from the country's Burgenland serve as a perfect example of this balance.  The estate's Michael Höffken, assistant winemaker and traveling guru of all things Hillinger, will be joining us to share his first-hand knowledge of Burgenland's wines.
The event features five wines, catered hors d'oeuvres, and an opportunity to purchase the wines of Hillinger at a bonus discount.  Prost!

Tasty Tuesday:
"The New Zealand Primer"

This Tuesday, October 15th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
The New Zealand wine industry has gone through many changes over the past few decades.  Factory winemaking and corporate beverage company ownership undermined what began as a grassroots winemaking culture, and of course there was that unfortunate business when Saruman tore up all the vineyards to create an army of bloodthirsty super-orcs.
But today, there is an increasing number of fantastic estate offerings from Middle Earth...uh, New Zealand, and our friend, Eric Platt of Pacific Prime Wines, will be here on Tuesday to pour a few of them. We'll be tasting a Grüner Veltliner from the venerable Seifried family as well as the classic NZ Sauvignon Blanc from their "Old Coach Road" imprint. Also featured are a beautiful bruiser of a Pinot Noir from Carrack and a delightfully subtle Riesling from Forrest Wines' innovative "The Doctor's" lineup. Eric always mixes fun with education, so come prepared to learn about what it means to make great wine in New Zealand.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 15%
Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

Autumn in the Piemonte
This Saturday, we're venturing into Italy's dynamic northwestern vineyards, which are home to some of its most striking specialties.  These famously firm offerings range from crisp, refreshing whites and juicy, youthful reds to powerful, long-lived delights which can practically cellar indefinitely.  Join us this weekend as we explore this sublime, subalpine land of the vine.

LEMON ZEST & GOLDEN APPLE, MINERALLY & MEDIUM BODIED, VERY CRISP
Cortese, a grape which many wine lovers associate exclusively with the small Piemontese region of Gavi, actually has a fairly wide northwestern Italian range. This example from less than 40 miles further west has many reminiscences of Gavi's classic hallmarks but a significantly lower price tag...
