Best Of 2013
This Saturday, Loire Wines & Goat Cheese!
We're also happy to announce our 2013 Rosé Limerick Contest...
In This Issue:
- Tasty Tuesday: ABC? Easy as 123!
- Saturday's Tasting: "Loire-a-Thon" (feat. great local goat cheese from Prodigal Farm)!
Greetings! top

Wine from the Loire and
Cheese from Durham County!
Prodigal Goats
Goat cheese and the gorgeously focused, characterful wines of the Loire valley have always enjoyed a special relationship.  The bright, citrusy flavors in the region's signature whites beautifully complement the tangy taste and fluffy, creamy texture of fresh goat cheese (and when we say "fresh," we mean like from 20 minutes away)! Our Special guest at this Saturday's tasting is Prodigal Farm, and you'll have the chance, first hand, to discover (or re-discover) this fabulous combination.  See more info below in our Saturday Tasting section!
Rosé Limerick Contest!
RosĂ© Limerick Contest
It's time once again to get creative* and express your passion, joy, love, and desire for dry pink wines through the always eloquent, heartfelt, and touching... limerick!
From Wikipedia: A limerick is a five-line poem in anapestic or amphibrachic meter with a strict rhyme scheme (aabba), which intends to be witty or humorous, and is sometimes obscene with humorous intent.
The following example of a limerick is of unknown origin:

The limerick packs laughs anatomical
In space that is quite economical,
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean,
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

* Needless to say, we recommend a glass of wine... or two... to help you gear up (or down?) for waxing limericktic.

Planning your getaway?
Vacation Box
For many of us, this stretch of summer is prime vacation time.  We flock to the beach to soak up the sun and bathe in the Atlantic breeze or we head for the mountains to escape the insistent midsummer heat.  Either way, we want our excursions to be special and filled with wonderful, memorable things.  Unfortunately, most of our favorite nearby travel destinations are sorely lacking in places to buy good wine.  Well, we've put together an assortment of some of our favorite vacation wines, tailored to the season and to our beautifully varied NC landscape - each at home on the beach or mountain cabin porch.  So, as you pack for your vacation, don't forget our essential vacation pack!

Tasty Tuesday:
Back to School

This Tuesday, August 20th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
Composition Notebook
After next Tuesday's tasting, you might just decide to leave with a backpack filled with wine!  In honor of the many students and educators flocking back to the pursuit of knowledge, we're presenting three wines (our ABCs) that you'll love to learn more about.  The aromatic whites Arinto and Bukettraube are both highly distinctive and much easier to commit to memory than algebraic formulas.  The lost red grape of Bordeaux, Carmenere, is one which provides us with a rich history lesson and an even richer combination of peppery and chocolaty flavors (we promise not to quiz you on them).  It's as easy as 123!
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 20%
Mixed Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 12 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 20% off!

with special guest:
Prodigal Farm
Chateau de Brézé
This weekend, join us as we celebrate the recent arrival of some phenomenal, brand new Loire Valley wines as well as the continued presence of others with a concise but action-packed tasting bookended by two offerings from a father & son team in Saumur (their estate pictured above).
Also present will be the local treasure trove of fantastic goat cheese which is Prodigal Farm.  Goat cheeses have always had a special place in the Loire and a spectacular affinity for being paired with a variety of Loire Valley wines.  A sampling of Prodigal Farm's cheeses will be just next to the tasting bar - a perfect pairing!
