Greetings! top

¡Hey Txakolina!
Txakoli Fest!
It's TxakoliFest!
6 Plates Txakoli      It's the one day of the year that Durham breaks out its secret stash of porrons and is transformed into an unlikely sister city to San Sebastián complete with spritzy Basque wine, oysters, and pintxos (tapas).  This is one of the greatest celebrations in town, and it's become the largest festival of Txakoli in the United States.
While you might know TxakoliFest from years past,  you've never seen it quite like this.  This year the first session is a tasting and food extravaganza as well as a fundraiser for the Housing for New Hope charity.  This session is a rare opportunity to wine and dine decadently and features all you can eat and drink (!) including:
  • 12 different Txakolis!
  • (at least) 4 different oysters on the half shell
  • 3 different Estrella beers
  • A crazy-delicious Basque sidra (cider) from barrel
  • Phenomenal food from Blu, Dos Perros, Mateo, Pops, Toast, Vin Rouge, Watts & Six Plates!
  • Andrew Kasab with incredible harp guitar
  • Newkirk bringing righteous jazz
The second session is an all out party where all wine and food is available for separate purchase.  You can get your tickets for either session via Six Plates or Wine Authorities.

Final week: Bordeaux 6-Packs!
Bordeaux Map
Take Your Pick of these 6-packs:
"2009 in Saint-Émilion"
or
"Graves-Box: Chateau Lusseau"

In typical Wine Authorities fashion, we've concocted two crazy great 6-pack sets of of Bordeaux, each showcasing some of our very favorite selections.  One is an assortment of Saint-Émilion from the illustrious 2009 vintage.  It contains three wines (two bottles each) which showcase the region's and vintage's strengths.
Another box focuses on the recent return of a producer that has long been dear to our hearts, Chateau Lusseau, hailing from the southern stretch of the Left Bank, Graves.  This set includes the chateau's two red cuvées (three bottles of each).  You can enjoy them all in the immediate future or ration them out over the course of the next few years and watch (or taste) them evolve.  Enjoy!

Tasty Tuesday!
Italy from Thigh to Heel

This Tuesday, June 4th, we present our FREE mid-week wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
Mapa-de-Italia
At our next Tasty Tuesday, we're going to scope out the delightfully gam-shaped form of Italy and pluck three exciting new arrivals to sample.  Starting in the Piemonte, we'll revisit one of our favorite values in white (previously out of stock and having only recently returned), a delicate and vibrant Cortese from Monferrato.  Next, we'll discover a new Tuscan Rosato filled with crisp, cherry-berryish Sangiovese swagger.  Finally, we'll arrive at the gorgeous stiletto heel that is Puglia for an Aglianico which manages to showcase both the grape's famous boldness and its gentler side with powerful dark fruit and firm but graceful tannin.  Bravissimo!

And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 20%
Mixed Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 12 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 20% off!

Annual Pre-TxakoliFest Tasting
.
.
Porron!
This Saturday, we're striving for the most diverse pre-TxakoliFest tasting yet.  We've got whites, a rosé, and even an illusive red!  We've got spritzy wine, non-spritzy wine, and everything in between!  There'll be a total of five wines this year and no shortage of the stellar minerality, vibrant fruit, and refreshing acidity that we've come to love in Txakolina. So join us as we pass around the porron and taste some truly unique and fantastic wines. You can even try your hand at actually catching some of the spritzy summertime elixir in your mouth (don't worry, Txakoli won't stain). ¡Hey Txakolina!
