Greetings!
Two of each wine?
While our recent rains may not have lasted forty days and forty nights (yet), they have been seemingly relentless. A sunny Wednesday almost lured us into a false sense of security, but we now appear to be in for another 24 hours of monsoon-ish-ness. While it's pouring rain outdoors, may we suggest pouring wine indoors? Curl up with a book and a nice glass of ros from the Garden or have a picnic in your kitchen (it can be done!) with your favorite comfort food and a spicy red.

Donate to our Sustain-a-Bull Team
|
The Doughman is a triathlon of running, biking, swimming and eating through downtown Durham. It is a fundraiser, this year for DPS's Hub Farm. Sustain-a-Bull has a team featuring staff from Only Burger, Durham Spirits Co, Vert and Vogue, and Wine Authorities who will compete & eat!
Can we win?: Yes!
But, you must help sponsor our team; click on the image to the left, or [click here.] Your donation will help fund educational programs in Durham Public Schools teaching our kids about local food systems and environmental stewardship. Your donation will also help us to get a better start in the race. Five teams already have a head start in the race because of the money they've raised.
Donate $20, $30, $50 or more by selecting "Sustain-a-Bull Cuisine Team" from the PayPal drop-down menu and get us into the finish line first!
Donations close noon Friday! So do it today.

~~~~ Bordeaux 6-Packs!
Take Your Pick of these 6-packs:
"Graves-Box: Chateau Lusseau"
In typical Wine Authorities fashion, we've concocted two crazy great 6-pack sets of of Bordeaux, each showcasing some of our very favorite selections. One is an assortment of Saint-milion from the illustrious 2009 vintage. It contains three wines (two bottles each) which showcase the region's and vintage's strengths. Another box focuses on the recent return of a producer that has long been dear to our hearts, Chateau Lusseau, hailing from the southern stretch of the Left Bank, Graves. This set includes the chateau's two red cuves (three bottles of each). You can enjoy them all in the immediate future or ration them out over the course of the next few years and watch (or taste) them evolve. Enjoy! Click on the links below for more informationand an ordering link (found at the bottom of each page)
$149.99 (Regularly $202.04)
and
$119.99 (Regularly $154.74)
Interested in both together? Ask about an even better 12 bottle deal!
It's here at long last! The pink oasis that refreshes our mouths and nourishes our souls is once again in bloom! The Ros Garden has arrived, and speaking of fresh, we're kicking off the garden this year with selections that include a couple of brand new, never-before-in-the-US, Wine Authorities exclusives - a tangy Garnacha rosado from the grape's birthplace in Spain and a most juicy Mediterranean thirst quencher (watch out!) made entirely from Cinsault. As always, a portion of each and ever bottle of ros sold will be donated to the fight against breast cancer.
Hay Txakolina!
It's TxakoliFest!
Saturday, June 1st
It's the one day of the year that Durham breaks out its secret stash of porrons and is transformed into an unlikely sister city to San Sebastin complete with spritzy Basque wine, oysters, and pintxos (tapas.) This is one of the greatest celebrations in town, and it's become the largest festival of Txakoli in the United States.
You may think that you know TxakoliFest, but you've never seen it quite like this. As usual, Durham's Basque transformation is scheduled to take place in two fabulous "sessions," but this year the first session is a tasting and food extravaganza which is also a fundraiser for the Housing for New Hope charity. The second session is an all out party where all wine and food is available for separate purchase. Get your tickets for either session via Six Plates or Wine Authorities.
Join the festivities and experience at least seven unique Txakolis available by the glass (the glass, itself, is a Basque souvenir that you'll take home with you), fantastic food, and live music from Andrew Kasab and Newkirk!
This Tuesday, May 28th, we present our FREE mid-week wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
If the phrase "Kingdom of Aragn" evokes thoughts for you of an imposing landscape filled with ancient castles and fortified cities, then you're on the right track as that's exactly what it was, but there's also a treasure in the hills, and that powerfully purpley quarry is the equally ancient Garnacha grape. Garnacha (or, as the french call it, Grenache) is a native to these northern Spanish climes, and it continues to reach its rich, ripe zenith in this arid and awe-inspiring environment. Join us on Tuesday for a tangy ros and two deliciously different reds from the excellent Tempore, a producer whose work has never before been available in North Carolina. Garnacha guaranteed!
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 20%
After you taste, put together 12 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 20% off!
Austria
Carnuntum, Burgenland, & Wagram
.
Join us this Saturday as we toast to the wrap of an excellent month of (and very bright future for) Austrian wine and a handful of our favorite producers from the central European wine paradise. We'll begin with one of the freshly landed (and very freshly fruited) 2012 ross, hailing from Carnuntum and bursting with vibrant red berry flavors. Next, we'll venture to Wagram's coveted Ried Rosenberg vineyard for a bold and beautiful Grner from master vigneron Anton Bauer. We'll wind up in Burgenland for an introduction to the latest vintages of a pair of reds - one of which showcases traditional Austrian/Central European grape varietals while the other stars the fashionable intensity of French outlanders Syrah and Merlot. Prost!
