Tasty Tuesday!
Start the month with
Mencia!

This Tuesday, December 4th, we present our mid-week FREE wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!

Mencia Map
Northwestern Spain's reds made from Mencia exude mystery and, as this week's Tasty Tuesday will aptly demonstrate, are also subject to great diversity.  Inviting comparisons with Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and sometimes even Gamay, the great Galician grape is one of many faces.  We'll begin in Valdeorras for an example of the varietal at its brightest and freshest.  Next we'll travel to Ribeira Sacra for a firm, medium bodied, and aromatic rendition.  At last, we'll trace Mencia back to its birthplace, Bierzo, for a powerfully rich, earthy, and oaken example.
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 20%
Mixed Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 12 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 20% off!

A Wine Authorities Selection:
Navarra's Via Aliaga
.
Carlos Aliaga Via Aliaga, hailing from a tiny  corner of southern Navarra which borders Rioja, specializes both in fabulously long-lived reds and youthful wines brimming with energy and life.  Carlos is a visionary, clearly following his passions and producing the wines that speak to him and, in turn, to us!  Join us this week for a free tasting of four wines from this exceptional producer.  Among them are some stellar values (for holiday parties, perhaps?) and great potential gifts.  This Saturday is the next-to-the-last day of our "Sustain-a-Bull sale, through which you can enjoy these and all other dedicated "Wine Authorities Selections" at 20% off the prices shown below!

(WEEKLY WINE: $12 to $19.99)

Doscarlos

Via Aliaga

"Doscarlos" 2011

100% Verdejo

(Navarra, Spain)

GINGER, CITRUS BLOSSOM,
LIME & GRAPEFRUIT, NO OAK

Via Aliaga continues to get better every year, and this wine is a great example. In previous vintages, their Verdejo was harvested very ripe and aged in oak barrels making for a rich, but non-distinct wine. For this vintage, they turned 180 and made the wine with juicy, mouthwatering grapes and...

Via Aliaga

Rosado 2011

"Lagrima de Garnacha"

100% Garnacha

 (Navarra, Spain)

PINKALICIOUS RASPBERRY FRUIT, SPICY LEMON ZEST
We met Carlos Aliaga in southern France at a wine show. That pink color on a table of red wine caught our eyes. And then the name, Lagrima de Garnacha or "Grenache Tears," compelled us to taste. Carlos is clearly passionate; he uses only natural yeast and some of the lowest...

(DAILY WINE: $11.99 or LESS)

Tempranillo Via Aliaga

Tempranillo 2010

100% Tempranillo

 (Navarra, Spain)

SPICY, LIGHTLY SMOKY, CRUSHED BLACK FRUIT
Winemaker and owner Carlos Aliaga named his wines after his mother's last name, Aliaga. His father planted the vines more than 45 years ago and being just two kilometers from Rioja, he planted Tempranillo vs. the usual Garnacha of Navarra. In the heart of Ribera Baja of Navarra, Carlos coaxes loads of...

Via Aliaga
Navarra Tinto 2001
"Vendimia Seleccionada"

70% Tempranillo,

30% Cabernet Sauvignon

(Navarra, Spain)

RICH & POWERFUL,
AGED TO PERFECTION,
A MODERNIST MASTERPIECE.
While Via Aliaga is not a winery that pushes the envelope in the modernist, hyper-rich style, they will flirt with it to the point of seduction if the vintage merits. In 2001 they had a small parcel of grapes with perfect ripeness and balance that reached this rare quality. So they put it in...
