"Vine to Wine," our in-depth introductory class, is an evening of wine which chronicles a vine's bud break in the spring to each of its grapes being lovingly squeezed into the bottles that we hold so dear. We cover how vines grow, how wine is made, how to read a label, how to buy wine, how to store wine, how to drink, er, taste wine... and we'll debunk many wine myths throughout this concise two hour class.
Highly acclaimed, valuably educational, completely fun!
So, bring a friend!
(includes tasting wines, video presentation, handouts, and corny jokes!)

"France: Out of Bounds!"
France's complex and inscrutable wine regulations have certainly set the standard for how the world looks at the pedigrees of wines, the provenances of grapes, and the pursuit of quality and specificity. Unfortunately, it seems that wherever there's regulation, the potential for bureaucracy to get a little heavy handed also exists. While France's laws protect tradition and help prevent trends and fads from paving over the precious specialties of its treasure trove of unique appellations, they can also end up stripping some truly deserving wines of their titles or pedigrees over trifles like grape percentages or which side of a fence a vine was grown. This Saturday, we're celebrating a French few wines which break the mold in one way or another. They don't conform, and we love them for it!

Domaine Pinchinat
"Vénus" Blanc 2011
{organic} 100% Rolle
(Provence, France)
FLORAL, GRAPEFRUIT & PEACH SKIN. VERY DRY. Fresh, crisp, dry and clean, this white is made from Rolle, a grape varietal that's obscure to most Americans, but essential in southern France and even southern Italy were it's known as Vermentino. Considered to be one of the greatest white wines with seafood (especially Bouillabaisse), Rolle has...
On Sale $10.99 [Full description]
(WEEKLY WINE: $12 to $19.99) Domaine Robert Serol Viognier 2011 "De Butte en Blanc" 100% Viognier (Southern Loire, France)
JUICY APRIUM & CLEAN TROPICAL FRUIT, FLORAL & MINERALLY Viognier, the champion white grape of the northernmost reaches of the Rhone Valley inspires passion, and its rarity only serves to enhance our desire for it. Unfortunately, the grape is all-too-often encountered in caricature, bursting with musky spice and sorely lacking in acidity. This Roannaise offering from Stéphane Serol, however, is tirelessly true to the grape's heritage and...
On Sale $19.99 [Full Description]
(DAILY WINE: $11.99 or LESS) Domaine Le Garrigon Vin de Méditerranée 2011 {organic} 60% Syrah, 40% Grenache (Southern Rhone, France) BLACKBERRY, RASPBERRY, LAVENDER, THYME (3L BIB = 4 bottles) This is winegrower Daniel Couston's magnificent table red, never exported outside of France until now! Only sold to local restaurants in the vicinity of the winery, once we tried it, we had to have it. Estate grown, delicious organic red, in a.... On Sale $29.99 [Full description]
(WEEKLY WINE: $12 to $19.99)
Mas del Périé
"Tu Vin Plus Aux Soirées" Rouge 2011
50% Cabernet Franc, 50% Malbec (Southwestern France) SOFT, SUPPLE & SPICY. BLACKBERRY & POMEGRANATE
Fabien Jouves doesn't just rock the classic style of Cahors. He also makes a few "vins de soif" (quaffers.) This one is half Cabernet Franc, a grape illegal here, thus the "Vin de France" lack of appellation & no vintage on the label. The name.... On Sale $19.99 [Full description]
(WEEKLY WINE: $12 to $19.99)
Domaine Plageoles
Braucol 2011
100% Fer Servadou (Braucol) (Southwestern France) EARTHY CURRANT & BLACK CHERRY, AUTUMN SPICES, MILK CHOCOLATE Fer Servadou, a Southwestern French grape with broad range but little fame, is clearly capable of heights equal to those of its relatives in Bordeaux. Often called "Braucol" in its home turf of Gaillac, it's typically blended with other grapes (such as Cabernet, Merlot, or the rare Duras). In this case, however, we're dealing with a spectacular solo act - a wine forfeiting its Gaillac pedigree in the name of.... On Sale $19.99 [Full description]
