Our Guests from Jerez:

20% off Rosé Sale!
  The Garden
Did you know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month? To spread the word, and raise more money for research, we're gonna sell a ton of pink wine this October!  Rosé never really goes "out of season" but it's time once again to make room for our autumn favorites and holiday selections.  Throughout the month of October, all in-stock rosé (both from the Garden and beyond) is a full 20% off.  As always, a portion of every rosé sale is contributed directly to the fight against breast cancer.  With your rosé-lovin' help we've raised over $12,000 so far!

Wine & Chocolate!
Tomorrow, Friday, October 26th, we're having a Wine & Chocolate class to raise money for the Durham County YMCA.  This mini-class will feature six wines and four types of chocolate over 1 1/2 hours.  This less-formal class is a great way to get your feet wet with food and wine pairing.  Plus, they're two of our favorite things and our classes are always fun and informative.  Spread the word!

A plate of oysters & glass of Muscadet, $15!
Herbauges & Walking Fish
This Tuesday, October 30th, we present our mid-week FREE wine tasting.  Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!

Oyster & Choblet
This week, Jerome Choblet of Domaine Herbauges and Walking Fish team with Wine Authorities to offer a special (and famously ideal) wine and food pairing treat.  Yes, dry, crisp Muscadet and fresh oysters are practically married to each other, so we're celebrating oyster season by offering, in addition to our free Tuesday tasting, a plate of six raw or steamed oysters with a glass of Jerome's Muscadet or Chardonnay for only $15.  Bon appetit!
And don't forget:

Trick & Treat Each year, we make part of our Halloween festivities the slightly tricky but always treat-filled dispelling of a few wine myths or limiting preconceived notions.  This year, we've selected a few great wines meant to rile up your skepticism simply for the joy of watching the conflict between your anticipated dislike and your newly found love fight it out as you taste (insert maniacal laugh)!  Well, that's not exactly true.  We take great pleasure in helping wines which are interesting (sometimes even quirky) find the audience that they deserve and in helping wine drinkers discover exciting, unfamiliar frontiers (even when those frontiers may at first appear a little scary)!

It's Pinot Noir... BUT IT'S WHITE! NOOO!!!!!!!!!! Paul Anheuser

"Blanc de Noir" 2011

{biodynamic} 100% Pinot Noir

(Nahe, Germany)

DRY, MOUTH-FILLING, RICH APRICOT, EARTHY AND EXOTIC
To some of us, nothing is more terrifying than the unknown... except maybe for those things which defy easy categorization.  Well, welcome to your nightmare.  Paul Anheuser explains how he goes about making a white Pinot Noir. This is the only wine he produces in 100% stainless steel tanks, employing a clear Bordeaux-style bottle to show off the wine's lovely golden depth. Flavors that swarm the palate and enrobe you with unctuous mouth-filling fruit and a rich, powerful...

Rosé... or BLOOD RED!?

Mas Codina

Penedès Rosé 2011

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon

 (Penedès, Spain)

SPICY, JUICY & DRY.
CRISP HERB & CHERRY
What's this?  A rosé that's almost as dark as a red!?  On top of that, while certainly not sweet, this isn't exactly "bone dry" either.  We just don't know what to think! Grown high in the Penedes region of the Catalan mountains, this wine is actually of the classic Clairet tradition, originally from Bordeaux and the origin of the English term "claret"...

(DAILY WINE: $11.99 or LESS)

Pinot for $12!

Apaltagua

Pinot Noir 2011

{organic} 100% Pinot Noir

(Colchagua, Chile)

PLUM & CRAISIN, JUICY, LUSH, SUBTLE SPICY OAK
"Be afraid.  Be very afraid."  It's not just the tagline from a David Cronenberg film, it's exactly what that little voice in your head ought to be saying whenever you see a $12 Pinot Noir.  This, however, is one that you can really sink your teeth into! Black fruit and an enveloping impression of spicy roundness from a kiss of new oak merge seamlessly in a friendly and elegant package....

Rich dry red with a little spritz. SPRITZ!?

Bera Vittorio e Figli
Piemonte Barbera 2011

{biodynamic} 100% Barbera

(Piemonte, Italy)

A RICH, DRY RED WITH A LITTLE SPRITZ. LEATHER, CHERRY, LIME.
A serious red with faint effervescence?
This can't be happening!  Well, before you decide that you've wandered into the Twilight Zone, consider that the Bera family produces small tiny amounts of this slightly effervescent Barbera in the classic spritzy style of Monferrato. Sure, go ahead and give it a gentle chill for about 20 minutes in the fridge. How cool to taste a red wine with tannin and bubbles. A seriously fun wine for your Italian dinner tonight....
