Stewardship 2016: The Grace of Giving

The Stewardship Committee would like to thank the congregation for its generosity in making the Grace of Giving campaign a great success so far.  We would especially like to recognize Elizabeth Baril, Eone Beck, Pratt Cook, and Bob Priddy for the inspirational messages they delivered during worship, as well as the many attendees and volunteers who made our old-fashioned pot luck supper a smashing success.

As of November 19, our members have submitted 301 pledges to total $1,007,750.  While the formalities of the campaign have concluded, we still have a ways to go.  Participation is 72%, so there are still some pledges out there we are counting on.  Remember Luke 6:38, the measure you give will be the measure you get back

Please return your pledge cards to the church office or you may pledge online.

Holiday Memorial Service
Monday, December 7    7:00 pm

The holiday season brings on powerful memories and emotions, and it can be a particularly painful time for those who have lost a child. If you have experienced this loss, or know someone who has, we want you to know about a special service to be held at Church of the Holy Comforter, 4819 Monument Avenue, on Monday, December 7, at 7 p.m.

The Holiday Memorial Service, now in its ninth year, is an interfaith offering sponsored by several area congregations - Protestant, Roman Catholic, Jewish - to provide a time and place for families to remember the child they lost. The holiday season is filled with images and expectations of loved ones coming home, while bereaved parents and family members know that not everyone can be around the table. Moreover, "holiday cheer" seems to preclude bringing up the name or the memory of the deceased child. The Holiday Memorial Service offers an opportunity to do that, whether your child died 30 years ago, or three weeks ago; whether as an adult, a teenager, a child or an infant.

This service is open to all, and is followed by a simple reception. For additional information, contact Rev. Mary Kay Collins or visit saintstephensrichmond.net/holidaymemorialservice.

Please Support the Fall Food Drive
Food Bank Boxes
Through November 29

At this time of year, when we give thanks for our many blessings, First Pres Preschool is sponsoring a church-wide food drive for those who are less fortunate.  Nearly 51,000 children in Central Virginia don't know where their next meal is coming from. Our food drive will help FeedMore reach out to children, families and seniors who don't have enough to eat.

Bags are available to take home and  fill them with food. Containers for your donations will be placed in the hallways.

FeedMore's most needed items are:
  • peanut butter
  • canned tuna and chicken
  • low sodium veggies
  • fruits packed in juice
  • spaghetti sauce (no glass, please)
  • canned or dry beans
  • hot and cold cereal
  • whole grain snacks
'Tis the Season . . . For The Giving Tree
November 15 - December 6

Help bring the spirit of Christmas to others in our community!  Visit the Giving Tree in the Commons next Sunday and choose one or more ornaments. Purchase the item described, attach your ornament (this is very important!), place the unwrapped gift in a bag and put it under the tree.

Through your generosity, the following organizations will benefit: George Mason Elementary; HomeAgain; and Virginia Treatment Center for Children.

For more information, contact Martha Westbrook or Kate Reynolds.
Make a Family's Christmas a Little Happier!

Contact Connie Gottwald, 560-3711 or cigottwald@mac.com for further information.
