Special Schedule this Sunday Due to UCI Road World Championships

This Sunday, September 27, join us at FPC at 8:30 am for coffee and breakfast treats and the opportunity to see the UCI Road World cyclists ride (speed by!) on Cary Street shortly after 9:00 am.

There will be no 9:00 am worship services on this Sunday due to the brief road closings on Three Chopt and Cary Street Roads from 8:50 - 9:20 am, although Grove Avenue and streets to the north will be open.

Our schedule on September 27 will be:

  8:30 am     Coffee, breakfast treats and race watching together

* * * No 9:00 am worship services * * * 

  9:45 am    Sunday School as usual

11:00 am    Worship service as usual

Laugh, Reflect and Discover with Creating the Covenant

Charlie Summers, Rosalind Banbury and Melissa Mintz are offering an 8-week Bible survey study that focuses on the key themes of promise-keeping and God's faithfulness.  We will be using a new easy-to-follow curriculum called Creating the Covenant. Daily scripture readings will be sent by email. There is also a participant's guide with additional information. In class, no one is put on the spot, and all have the opportunity to ask questions and share. What is said in the group stays in the group. 
  • Sundays, 5:30-7:00 pm, Oct. 4 - Nov. 22, led by Melissa Mintz     OR
  • Mondays, 9:30-11:00 am, Oct. 12 - Nov. 30, led by Rosalind Banbury     OR
  • Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm, Oct. 6  - Nov. 24, led by Charlie Summers
Childcare available upon advance request for all classes.
 
Orientation: Monday, September 28, 7:00 pm. Pick up your study guides and find out how to prepare for the first class. Homework takes about 15-20 minutes a day.
 
Participant Book: The cost is $20. Or if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can get the Covenant app for $9.99. Each participant will also need the Common English Version Study Bible or any study Bible.

FPC Women's Choir

Calling all women! You're invited to participate in the annual FPC Women's Choir.  All experience levels are welcome.

We will sing on Sunday, October 4, at the 11:00 am worship service. There will be one rehearsal on Wednesday, September 30, 6:30-7:30 pm.

Justice Ministry Offering Will Be October 4

On World Communion Sunday, October 4, we will receive our annual Justice Ministry Offering. This offering goes to local and overseas efforts to assist the poor, help the refugees, and grant liberty to those who are oppressed.
Church and Preschool Fall Picnic

PW Luncheon and Program

Jennifer McClellan, member of the Virginia House of Delegates, will be our speaker for the October 6 luncheon. She is an Assistant General Counsel at Verizon Communications and a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Metropolitan Women's Bar Association, the Richmond Bar Association, and the Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Bar Association.

All FPC members and guests are welcome.  A free nursery is available.

Join us for a four-evening workshop this fall as we discuss living fully and dying well for ourselves and/or our loved ones. 
  • Introduction to Dying Well
    • How we die matters.  What can we do to prepare for the end of life?
  • Discussing dying well and what that means
    • What does dying well mean to you?  Talking with your family about end of life.
  • Creating documents that ensure end of life wishes are understood
    • The What, When, Where, and Why of meaningful services and obituaries
  • Sharing memories and passing along wisdoms
    • How do you want to be remembered?

2,000 Cookies Needed by October 18

Kairos Prison Ministry brings God's care to those in prison who are isolated, without visitors and who have never experienced God's love.

How can you help?
  • Pray - sign up to pray for 30 minutes sometime October 23 - 24 for the men in the program.
  • Bake Cookies - homemade cookies are given to the prisoners as encouragement to engage in the program.  Pick up cookie bags in the Commons and return them to the FPC freezer between October 1 - 18.
  • Decorate Posters and Placemats - words and pictures of caring and encouragement have a big impact on the prisoners.
