George Mason Elementary Needs You!
|
September 20 12:00 noon
We'd love to have you join us as a George Mason School Volunteer this year! Learn more on September 20th following the 11:00 am service when we will meet in the Chapel with Ingrid deRoo, Communities in Schools Site Coordinator at George Mason.
Every year from mid-October to Memorial Day about 40 FPC members volunteer at the school located at 28th and O Streets in Church Hill. Some visit weekly, while others may give a few hours once a month. You can serve as a tutor or classroom assistant in K-2, as a reading partner with first graders or help with special projects.
We offer a helpful training session for new volunteers and a tour of the school.
Please contact Carolyn Cockrell, 213-0111, or Tassie Madden, 784-2755, or drop by the Chapel on September 20 to talk about how you'd like to help!

A big shout-out of thanks goes to the 30 people who helped clean out and spruce up our library of damaged, outdated or unused books. It was a demanding job. Not only was each book examined by hand, but also each book had up to 5 cards to pull from the catalog system. Thirty-nine boxes of books were given to Union Presbyterian Seminary, Salvation Army, George Mason Elementary School and Goodwill. And there are still many books to use and check out.
Special thanks to Sally Bryson, our church librarian, who helped us understand and set up the clean up system. Sally, thank you also for your continued work on behalf of us all. Thanks also to Cynthia Haw, moderator of Presbyterian Women, who helped get the word out.
