Underneath are the Words Book Signing This Sunday

The biblical story begins in a garden, but ends in a city, the New Jerusalem.  In this collection of sermons and short stories, Underneath are the Words, Charlie Summers reflects on his forty years in urban ministry. Remembering Jeremiah's message to "seek the welfare of the city," this collection invites the reader to listen for what the Holy Spirit is saying to us in our day about the communities we live in.

You're invited to stop by the Commons after worship this Sunday to purchase a copy of Underneath are the Words and have Charlie sign it. Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Boaz and Ruth, a bridge-building ministry in the Highland Park Community.

Book are $16.95 each and are also available at fpcrichmond.org/underneath or in the church office.

The Fifth-Grade Dessert Party at George Mason Elementary School is a special event geared towards celebrating the outgoing fifth graders as they transition to middle school. This fun event will be Wednesday, June 3, 4:30 pm at The Robinson Theater.

Help is needed for set-up, serving, and clean-up. If you would enjoy helping for all or part of this event, please contact Katherine Hubbard.

We also need donations of small fresh flower arrangements for table centerpieces.  These can be flowers from your own garden. Please email Kim Lewis if you can help with this.

Jonah: More Than a Fish Tale

Sundays in June    9:00 - 9:50 am    Room 218

You may have heard about Jonah being swallowed by a whale, but what about the rest of the story?  The story of Jonah is a long tale that deals with surprisingly contemporary issues: resentments against national enemies, running away from God, revenge and forgiveness, anger at God and God's relentless grace.

On Sunday, June 7, we will receive our annual Pentecost Offering. This offering provides a way to directly meet the needs of children at risk, youth and young adults.

One half of the offering goes to PCUSA programs that advocate for children and provide leadership development opportunities for youth and young adults. The other half of the offering will be used here at FPC to help send youth and adults on their summer mission trips.

    PW Needlework Group

While many FPC groups do not meet during the summer, the Needlework Group continues.  We find that some  people have more time in the summer, and schedules are often less hectic. We welcome those who can only come occasionally, and are always available to try to help someone recapture an old skill or learn a new method.

Please join us any time on the first Thursday or third Tuesday of every month in the  FPC  Parlor, 10:00 am - noon.  Bring your own project, and bring a friend or neighbor!

For more information, contact  Marylee McGregor, macpava@yahoo.com or 353-8785.
