Greetings!
We began our week with the Yom Hazikaron commemoration. It was a beautiful and moving ceremony and we are always glad to have the community event on our campus. We had a perfect evening for it and many were here and participated.
We moved from the solemnity of that event to the joy of celebrating Israel's 65th birthday on Wednesday afternoon. We held a concert that featured our Cedar Village Choir and Cedar Village Bell Choir doing a program of Israeli music. The Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center was packed and it was a great event. We followed the concert with a delightful video that featured both the choirs getting ready to perform and some wonderful pictures from our past Israel missions. And, of course, we had birthday cake and ice cream as any good birthday celebration should have!
Tuesday also had a big special event in the middle of it! Our state association, which represents all of the nonprofit retirement communities and long term care facilities in Ohio, is called Leading Age Ohio. They have a program that is called the "STARS" program, which takes place annually and is done by region. Every facility has the ability to choose "STARS" to be honored at a special event. These are non-management staff who can be nominated by anyone from supervisors to colleagues, from residents to community members. We hosted the STARS celebration for our region at Cedar Village and it was a delightful event. More than 200 people, from all over, filled the Cohen Center with celebration and joy. We honored six outstanding members of our staff and enjoyed seeing so many from other places. It was a wonderful afternoon.
If you are out at Cedar Village you may notice that there is scaffolding at the front of the building. We are beginning a major project to repair the skylights and roof of the Cohen Center. We've had a lot of water issues and if you have been in the Synagogue you have likely noticed that the wall has a lot of water damage. This should solve that problem! We will go on from the repair to repaint the Cohen Center and freshen up the entire space.
Don't forget that Eight over Eighty is coming soon! Invitations are out for the May 30 event so be sure to make your reservation soon. If you did not receive an invitation, please contact Sally Korkin, skorkin@cedarvillage.org and she will make sure that you do!
All the best,
