We had another great week as we wrapped up the month of February. Recognizing Lincoln's birthday, we had a wonderful program, sponsored by Creative Aging, called "Meet Mr. Lincoln" which was a huge hit with the residents. Our folks love to learn and are especially engaged by programs about history.
We've also begun a new semester of OMA (Opening Minds through Art), a program that we do in partnership with the great folks from the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University. OMA offers individuals a chance for meaningful creative expression and is a powerful therapeutic, as well as enrichment, experience.
One of the major highlights this week was our visit with Teepa Snow. Teepa is a nationally known consultant and educator on dementia and has been working closely with us on our dementia care specialist training program. Teepa was with us this week to train staff, help with our program and also to provide a great family education session. Not only did she provide a wonderful session for families and community members, we also introduced the book on the "gems" and dementia that we have produced in conjunction with Teepa. It is the first book to focus on the gem system and an invaluable handbook for those who are working with or living with individuals with dementia.
