Greetings!
What a week we have had at Cedar Village! On Monday and Tuesday, we had the joy and privilege of having an Artist-in-Residence, a special program made possible by the David and Nancy Wolf Creative Expression Program. Marc Rossio, who has performed for us in the past, was here for a concentrated two day event. Marc wrote a new song for Cedar Village and he, along with our wonderful music therapist Jude Jones, worked with residents and staff all over the campus, teaching them the chorus of the song and having them participate in many activities related to the music and the theme. The energy level, enthusiasm and engagement were incredible and it got even better on the second day when we had children join us, thanks to our friends at Cincinnati Hebrew Day School. We'll be putting together a music video to share with both our Cedar Village family and "the world" so stay tuned!
On Thursday evening, one of our staff sponsored a party for the Oak View and Fountain View residents. Martha Pyne, who manages Cedar Village Home Care, was planning a party for her friends when she decided that she would rather throw a party for her Cedar Village family. She and her husband sponsored the music, decorations and refreshments and called the event "A Night to Remember." The Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center was filled with residents, dressed up and enjoying music, dancing and desserts. It was a lovely gift to our residents and a wonderful way for everyone to have fun together!
We also had our first computer class on Thursday morning. Sponsored by the Harkavy/Berg fund, we now have computer classes for our residents. We had a full class of 12 students, each had a computer to work on and there were two instructors who helped to walk them through the first lesson. It was a dream come true for some of our folks and many look forward to using their computer skills to enhance their communication with the children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren!
The biggest news for today is that Cedar Village has now gone up yet another notch in our communication and added another element to our tool kit. As of this morning, you can download a Cedar Village app to your iPhone or Android phone. Free of charge, it offers you access to events, photos and more. You can send an e-card to anyone who lives at Cedar Village right from your phone-just pick out your card, write your message and tell us who to deliver it to. Just as we do on our website, we'll print out the card in color and deliver it within one business day. You can also make a donation right from your phone. We hope you will download the Cedar Village app and enjoy another way to connect with us!
All the best,
