This week was truly highlighted by watching a dream come true. For a long time, we had talked about how wonderful it would be to offer outpatient physical therapy in two locations, both here at Cedar Village and at the Mayerson JCC. On Tuesday, thanks to the generosity of The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati, the collaborative efforts of the JCC leadership and the support and commitment of the Cedar Village board and staff, the Cedar Village Rehabilitation Center at the Mayerson JCC officially opened its doors.
We had wonderful and festive events to kick off this new service, beginning with a "thank you" cocktail party on Tuesday and a brief formal ceremony which included the installation of the mezuzah on the Rehab Center doorframe. On Wednesday, we had a full day of fun at the JCC and offered both information and tours as well as some health-focused activities. We did blood pressure checks, balance assessments and had a dietitian on board to answer questions and dispense delicious healthy snacks.
If you or someone you know needs some physical therapy, the Cedar Village Rehabilitation Center at the Mayerson JCC is a great option for you. Stop by or call for an assessment and more information. Anyone of any age may use this service and we look forward to extending our acclaimed rehabilitation services even further into the community!
We have been delighted with the national coverage we continue to receive on the first anniversary of the Shalom Center for Elder Abuse Prevention. There have been so many people who've contacted us offering support, donations and expressions of caring for the victims we have sheltered and are currently sheltering. Elder abuse is a problem of major proportions, with estimates ranging as high as 5 million older adults becoming victims each year. The first step towards safety is education, making certain that we are all in tune with the warning signs and that we take action and notify local authorities when we see them. Click here for information that you may find helpful. If you have a concern, if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask. We're happy to share information, review a potential case with you and help you determine the proper way to proceed if necessary. It will take all of us to ensure a safe and healthy future for our older adults.
