It does not seem possible but our trip is winding down We have one more day of touring, a day in Tel Aviv on Saturday and then will be boarding a flight home at 11:30 Saturday night. We change in Philly again and are scheduled to arrive in Cincinnati just after 1 p.m. on Sunday. I know I have called every day amazing or remarkable and, in truth, I have not exaggerated at all! This morning we visited several historic churches including the Mt. of Beautitudes and Capernaum. We viewed architectural remains in complete wonder as we learned about, and thought about, the ways in which our different religions connect and the ways in which one reflects the other. Our touring concluded at lovely kibbutz restaurant located right on the Sea of Galilee. We had a choice of fish, pasta or pizza for lunch which, of course, followed the usual soup, hummus, beet salad and pita. Those ordering fish were a bit surprised at the way it was served--head and all--but everyone managed to figure out how to eat it and did so with much gusto! After lunch we did something that has been a highlight of each of our missions--we took a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Everyone climbed aboard, the captain played the Star Spangled Banner on the sound system and everyone stood at attention. Then the captain put on some lively Hebrew music and we all got up and started to dance! We all got involved, to the level of our ability, and the smiles were beaming and the laughter pealing. We followed our festive boat ride with a much more somber and spiritual event. We went to the baptismal site on the Jordan River and all of our Otterbein friends, and most of our non-Jewish staff, participated in a baptism ceremony facilitated by Pastor Barb. It was emotional for them as well as for all of us who had the opportunity to watch. Our day concluded with a toast in the hotel lobby, featuring wine we bought yesterday at Kishorit. We toasted Margie and Stan for their anniversary and we toasted all of our travelers and our wonderful trip. One more day of adventures tomorrow! |
